Any one with experience changing a water pump?

Hello guys, the water pump on our 2013 X5 is gone, just removed the water pump, took me about 6 hours to figure out how to remove it from vehicle, now the new part is here and I'm not being able to put back the thing into place, today just invested 4 hrs wrestling with the water pump and the tight space, any one of you know if I can replace the water pump removing the electric fan? Hope you can help me ! Thanks in advance !

Hope you are replacing the thermostat also while the water pump is out. I believe the instructions says to remove the fan.

If you got the old one off, what is making it difficult to put the new one on? Can you provide more details?

Well I'm trying to put the new water pump back the same way the old one came off with no success, the old one came off by the lower part of the vehicle but researching another sites I found that is easier to remove the electric fan and feed the water pump from the top of the vehicle, I'll try that today or tomorrow and keep you posted !

I have a 2013 E70 35i and went through the same last month. The water pump failed at ~40k miles!

Did some research on DIY and then decided it was not worth it! Got it done from a pro.

Some info from my research -
1. It will go in the same way (from the bottom). No need to remove fan.
2. If you remove the sway bar (only 2 or 4 bolts), it will make things a lot easier.
3. Turn the steering/ wheels towards Left when installing water pump.

I will try to find the DIY videos if possible.

Also, it is better to replace thermostat and coolant at the same time.
Replace water pump bolts with new ones (they are one time use only). All bolts need to be tightened (torq) as per spec. Make sure you do not over tighten.

I replaced everything with OEM BMW parts. Didn’t wanna go through this again for a thermostat or anything else related/ in the same area!

Sorry, only refer to my post if you have the IL 6. My advice may not be applicable to the 50i (V8)!
