X6M - what is this? -
Hi,
i was wondering if any X6M owners here could tell me what the cut-out is on the lower rear bumper between the two sets of exchausts? It looks as if you can remove a piece of the panel to fit a tow-hook?? But i thought the X6M doesnt have a Tow-hook? please explain. |

All BMWs have a removable cover approximately 1" square which conceals a tow hook female thread.
You will find the tow hook in the rear compartment where the spare tire would normally go. Without a tow hook, there is no way to put the vehicle on a flat bed, or remove form a ditch without possibly causing damage.

If you are referring to the center area beneath the painted bumber, most likely for a trailer hitch. It is hard to tell anything form the photo you posted.

It's not unique to the ///M - the X6 has it too - it's there to install an optional trailer hitch. Otherwise you'd have to install a new fascia when you installed the optional trailer hitch.

Teague, Thanks for the info, though i know that the X6 has it. I was rather interested to know if the X6M had it. Because It was my understanding that the X6M did not have a trailer Hitch.

Teague, Thanks for the 2nd picture. I actually should have done this long ago! - go to the BMW web site to the configurator of the X6M.
I therefore did that and just saw that indeed the X6M DOES have an option for detachable tow-bar. So the case is solved. I could have sworn there was a discussion on this forum that stated the X6M didnt have one. hence my confusion. |

It looks like the ///M doesn't have the cut out for the swing away bike rack availability. My guess is it there built into the frame but for some reason BMW decided that guys driving a 550 hp German steamroller don't need a bike rack - go figure.

I have a Bianchi cyclocross bike and at 54 I want to get back into it so I can train for the Paris–Roubaix - l'enfer du Nord (Hell of the North).
Actually, I'd die in the first mile, not to mention riding a cyclocross bike. But I have always wanted to see the race (I watch video recordings). The good thing about the X6 is if I ever get serious about riding again I can always get a great bike rack for the trailer hitch mount. Have a good one! Cheers. PS - be sure and post some pictures after you do the ///M kit. How do you handle the silencers? |

Sorry, do not mean to patronise anyone, but..
The "cut out" you are referring to is called a rear diffuser. I would think this is a common thing for all M cars not to have a trailer Hitch. This is a super fast German car and not a caravan puller. |

On the other hand, I think the Ferrari pictured below has a true ground effects diffuser compared to the ///M below it. The ///M basically fits the category of a standard rear bumper fascia. Also, read the entire post and you'll see the the OP mentioned that he's going to be installing a ///M kit on his non-///M X6. Frankly, I'm not that religious about it anyway. Remember BMW labeled the X6 ///M a SAV, i.e., Sports Activity Vehicle. Depending on what you're towing, it may be a very sporty thing to do with a X6 ///M. Don't mean to patronize. . I consulted the BMW Parts Catalog and it appears they call it a hitch flap and a cover, as noted below.
