New X6 40d UK release

Hi,
I am about to order a X6 40d in the UK. However the dealer is telling me that in the UK adaptive drive and active steering will not be available on the 40d?
can someone tell me if this is correct?
Thanks

If the dealer is telling you that adaptive drive and active steering are not available then I would guess this is true. In the UK we do not have this model yet. On the UK web-site the 40d model is still not listed:

X6 xDrive35i Petrol 306 hp 2979 cc 25.4mpg / 259g £ 44,375.00
X6 xDrive50i Petrol 408 hp 4395 cc 22.1mpg / 299g £ 55,335.00
X6 xDrive30d Diesel 235 hp 2993 cc 34.4mpg / 217g £ 43,595.00
X6 xDrive35d Diesel 286 hp 2993 cc 34.0mpg / 220g £ 45,835.00

Also please note that active steering is not available for X6M

Active steering and Adaptive drive are available in the 40d in Germany. So i see no reason why they wouldnt be available in the UK.

RW,
I can confirm that Active Drive is now only available on the 50i model and not on the 30d or 40d models. (Strange decision for BMW to remove the option?)
I had placed an order for a 35d in Jan luckily I have been able to change it for a 40d all be it without active drive. I Ordered the active cruise control instead. I was lucky enough to test drive a 35d with active drive and without active drive back to back.

I thought active drive was good but do not think it was worth £2300 that BMW were charging. Personally I am pleased it is no longer available on the 40d as it has now removed the temptation to spec it on my order.

RW,

Oh no just what I didn't want to hear LOL

Are you sure that is for a UK Spec X6 40d?
My dealer was pretty clear as it was stated definitively on the MY2011 changes bulletin from BMW that Adaptive drive was no longer an option on the new 40d.

I suppose that this could have changed but I was just in the dealers today finalising spec but did not see adaptive drive on the option list on the dealers computer (just about every box ticked) so added active cruise control, side view cameras and speed limit display instead of active drive.

I got a build week of week 15 so should hopefully get the vehicle before the end of May

Regards,
Dunzzy

Dunzzy
I am 100% sure the Adaptive Drive will be available as an option on 40d.
This is one of the best option on the X6.

Active Steering though is useless, no wonder BMW does not have this option for X6M.

Does anyone know how much Adaptive drive now costs ?
It was £2300 previously but most options have gone up in price 5 -10% for MY2011
It's a very expensive option. So could be as high as 2.5K

When I drove the car with AD I felt it had a firmer side than the car without AD even when not in Sports mode dampening settings however I did feel it operating going around bends.
I am worried that if I choose AD it will be like EDC on my M3 - I never use it so for me is a waste of money.
Most people that have paid for it seem to swear it it worth it however I am a bir sceptical that this may be partly self justification as it is an expensive option.

Do you guys think it's worth the money ?
Any advise on adaptive drive would be appreciated.

It seems that I have a small Dilema !!

hi. when did you make the order? I did my order last week, and i have a order number but the dealer hasnt given me a build date yet. He said he will get that info on the 2nd or 3rd week or April. Is he doing something wrong or am i missing something.

Hi,

Originally made the order in Jan for a 35d but once I heard the 40d was going to be available I held back and tranferred the order over 1st week in Feb.

I beleive that 40d only became available on the dealer's system at Start of Feb. I only found out about the build date yesterday.

Some dealers do not have an allocation for MY2011 as yet. It might be worth checking with your dealer as you may have a build date.

Hi Dunzzy,
I think having AD is worth it as the X6 is high legged and there is a real advantage if you want to use your X6 for what it is intended to do. Regrets are always too late.

RW,

2VA or Adaptive Drive is still not showing as an option code on my dealer's computer system system.
My dealer has raised an enquiry to BMW Head office to clarify whether Adaptive drive will be an option of the 40d.

My order code is still at 112 so he reckons I still have a week or so to make changes to the spec so best to find out for sure.

If it is available i think I want it sowill have to swallow the extra cost
- As you says regrets are always too late

Do you have a confirmed order including adaptive drive for the 40d ?

Will keep you posted on the outcome.

Dunnzy,
I do not have the new contract signed yet but the rep said it was no problem. It would not be logical the fact that AD is available everywhere else but not in the UK

I heard from the dealer that BMW is having problems with the installations of AD and Active steering on the RHD versions - this is the reason it is not 'yet' available in the UK.

I cannot imagine it will not be eventually solved, but obviously the question is how long do u have to wait!

Hi,
I have ordered a LHD as I am moving in summer back to the continent. So that is probably the reason why I can get AD and AS. Although it is a bit strange that RHD would impact because it was available on the 35d. But you never know with BMW: like they offer now lane departure warning system but not the far more useful lane change warning system (as the X6 rear window has limited view)

Yep,

My dealer has been in contact with BMW HQ He has confirmed due to poor take up Adaptive Drive is no longer an option on RHD X6 30d NS 40d models. It seems it is only an option on 50i and standard on the X6M. Side view cameras are only available from build week 24.

This solves my dilemma as adaptive drive is not an option on 40d.
My Vehicle is scheduled from build week 14 so no side view cameras either.

I am not too fussed about the side view cameras as I see them as a nice to have. However it's a pitty about adaptive drive though.

Deleted roof bars from my spec as I have no real need for them and beleive the car looks better without them. Looks more coupe and less 4x4 .

I am still considering whether it's worth adding the sun roof. It would be a no brainer if the sun roof was the large moon roof type (As fitted in X5) but not convinced that the smaller sun roof is worth the money or indeed useful.

Opinions and advice is welcome

Not sure how relevant it is, but an Aussie dealer told me the below in reference to X5 40d not supporting adaptive drive nor active steering :-

"Because of the new diesel engine structure and efficient dynamic components, Adaptive drive and Active steering are no longer available in the Diesel vehicles."

Guys, I have ordered my 40d WITH adaptive drive and active steering,- but my car is LHD. These two options are currently cause problems with the RHD models, but hopefully BMW will fix it.

Check out the X6 on the German website for instance - those options are there.

Hi,
I am not sure your dealer is correct by making that statement. I advice you to contact head office on this issue, my dealer never mentionned this.
