Bought used from BMW dealer no extended warranty. It has 60K. CE light came less than 24 hours after I took it home.

Warranty I am referring is the limited warranty you get from buying a used car from a dealer.

Right now they are waiting on the manager for approval for the repair. SA suggested all 8 injector and 8 spark plugs. But will depend on the manager he can authorize repair of the 2 misfire detected and call it a day.

Issue is X has N7 injectors and replacements will be n11. SA even told he does not want to mix them but has done it before and suggested all 8 to be consistent.

Guess I will find out tomorrow but I hope they decide to do all 8 without any cost to me due to length of ownership.

Does NJ have a buyer's remorse law? If dealer decides not to fix it, give it back to them. FL has this law and I believe you can return the vehicle within 72 hours or something to that effect. May be worth a check.

No NJ buyer remorse law that I could find, but what are the odds that car developed a fault within 24h of buying it? Odds are the dealer cleared faults before unloading it. My X5M showed all kinds of symptoms before finally throwing any codes. Smoke, soot and slow starts. I'd push the dealer to cover the repair completely.

Why should this be so expensive??

One injector is about 170 USD.

The spark plug is about 26 USD each..

Update all injectors replaced from n7 to n11 and new plugs at no cost to me. Very happy and dodged a bullet on that one.

Circle BMW came through with no issues. Car idles great and more responsive

Update on my issue...

THANK GOD I got the extended warranty on my 2010 X5M, she has been nothing but fun and trouble. The warranty company is covering replacement of all 8 injectors and spark plugs on the car. Should get it back from the dealer on Tuesday, will report back.

For everyone still considering a warranty, I strongly advise to get a warranty based on my experience so far. For everyone's reference, my warranty company has covered the following repairs (minus $100 deductible for each repair):

Covered:
1) Automatic Tailgate arm replacement ~$1100
2) Front passenger side PDC sensor replacement ~$300
3) 8 Fuel Injectors and Spark Plugs ~$4500

Not Covered (Paid out of pocket):
1) Crankcase valve/hose replacement ~$2000
2) AC Fluid ~$175

How is the car so far? I know it's only been a couple of days since you got it back... Wondering if it's faster, better with mpg, etc...

Only drove it home and been in the garage. Will try to put more miles this weekend.

To be honest I have not owned it long enough to tell the difference. idle is a lot better and cold starts.

Question to the forum. What else should I be looking into replacing as a preventive maintenance or inspecting. Hoses, lines etc?

Thanks

Might not be out of the woods yet.

Cold start last night and this morning. Sounded great. Rpm dropped from 2500 to 1500 smoothly. After a minute the car felt very jerky. Figure it was cold drove easily and it was indeed very jump. The rpm will fluctuate on a complete stop.

Test drove and I can feel it on low gear/rpm like the feeling of you playing with the gas.

Put the car on auto hold and next thing it jerked. Made me panic a bit but did not move.

Now this had all injector and sparks replaced. Called the dealer to show my concern because I don't think this is normal at all. He will speak to the SA. I asked if the injectors were recalibrated or checked.

Any advise from the board. Any of you had the same experience after injector change?

Thanks

Got mine back yesterday which was 2 days sooner than what they originally told me.

Drove is ~50 miles last night and Ben driving it all day while running errands. So far so good for me but I've got my fingers crossed after reading your update.

Having owned this beast for six months I definitely notice a difference in a good way. Almost scared to detail out the improvements so as not to jinx myself. Since its only been a day since the service, I will give it a few days before posting detailed before / after.

Put about 30 miles today and the idle jerk is very noticeable. Going back Monday again.

Took videos and been sending to dealer. Anything under 2k rpm it fluctuates. Parked, driving, on a stop sign is affected.

I am confident they will. But the issue becomes more it's an inconvenience having to take time off to drop and pick it up.

They better not give me a Nissan Sentra again as a loaner.

Mornings start up was worse.

Check engine came up, 4c4 and dsc error also.

There is a yellow and red marker on the rpm yellow on 2k and red on 3k. Is this the reduced power one?

Can I drive this to the dealer or have to get it towed? This is starting to worry me.

Thanks

I am by no means a mechanic but wow almost sounds like they reprogrammed the car incorrectly?

I would make the dealer tow it for you on their dime. It's amazing that this is happening after 1 week of ownership. Makes you wonder how thorough dealers actually check their used cars.

Good luck.

40 mile drive yesterday only issue was the low rpm idle.

Today started and took a video and it lit up like a christmas tree. Have a cheap scanner and it says

P11AB
P11BD

These are vehicle specific errors and could not find what it means on the net.

Update
Dealers says they found a ground wire on bank 2 corroded.

Foreman says they want to do an overnight test and a 60 mile drive to verify it all works. Not too comfy with that idea but I guess I have no choice.

Any one ever had this done?
