Are there any groups that do custom x5m / S63 flash tuning?
I'm not interested in a piggyback or someone who wants me to buy their $300 VIN locked K+DCAN cable just to flash a tune. Hoping there is a shop out there that does tuning in a more realistic (and normal) fashion.
I realize we don't have the mass market competition than the N54 groups do, but it's a bit silly people are asking $1k+ to do a DME flash tune, or $200 extra to code out catless DP CEL's. Is there any better option for us? Would love to hear it if so.

I feel like with BMWs things are tricky and the consumers want exact fit things. An example would be turbo/SC kits...you can make shitty kits fit and then get it tuned or you could spend 3 x as much and buy one specifically for your car...and get charged ///M tax.

If I understand what you're meaning by "normal" tuning, I don't have a direct answer in the form of a shop name to send you to, but generally speaking there are probably only a few shops around the nation that can custom tune the X5M. However, the cost is going to be significantly more than the $300 cable or $1000-1500 flash tune that you mention. Expect to pay a good bit more to have a competent S63 tuner hook up to your car and tweak real-time your DME to maximize YOUR car's output. It is a luxury and privilege to have access to a good BMW tuner.
Canned "flash" tunes ARE the norm for today's cars because not many can (or want) to pay what it actually costs to have a car custom tuned. A remote/canned flash tune gets a car pretty darn close to optimized without spending big bucks to flush out every pony. Plus, it's not like it used to be when "normal" tuning meant putting a car on the dyno and adjusting mechanical settings like carburetor jets, needle adjustments, advance springs, etc. Those days don't relate to modern fuel injected cars. |

I reached out to MHD a while back but they have other projects going on before they even think about the e70 x5m.
on my pure stage2 335, i have the jb4 with mhd backend flash, and I would street tune, send the logs to my tuner he would adjust my map until we had a perfect tune. I wish it was that easy with the e70 x5m. I might trade the x5m in for an M5, the s63tu has way more support

Thanks for the feedback. I guess when I said "normal" tuning, I was referring to my past experiences with GM cars and the N54. On both, I can take logs using my PC or an app, forward those to a tuner, and then get back a new ECU map which I can flash on my car using my PC or an app. See Motiv for example, who does custom dyno tunes for $350 on N54s with a ton of revisions included.
There is no reason the S63 shouldn't be like this, since it uses the same DME as many other commonly tuned BMWs (Siemens MSD85.1). My guess is nobody is doing it because of our limited production, and the guys who do (Velos/etc.) charge a fortune and VIN lock hardware because they can. Oh well, was hoping there was something I hadn't been able to find.

“NCA Motorsports” has a Pure stg2 x6m with full boltons, they are going to use DME tuning. Waiting to see the results\details on if they need additional fueling to reach the potential of the stage2 turbos.
