Warranty

So car went to BMW to get work done and warranty company denied claim saying the part isn't covered under warranty. I asked BMW to take a look at the warranty and said it is pretty shitty..... BMW is going to get back to me today if I can get factory BMW warranty or refer me to a third party one they work with. You guys have any third party warranties without any issues?

Good luck sorting this out and getting some coverage - I know the frustration.

I had a 3rd party warranty years ago on a 3 series I owned and they denied coverage on almost everything. I would never both with one again, personally.

Just spoke with CarChex and did some Googling....said it is good for BMWs. I asked my dealer and said they are just as good as BMW warranty

Once you are out of factory warranty, it is too late to ask for Extended Warranty (that is what you are essentially asking for).

Don't they all say they are good for any vehicle? Their pamphlets sound wonderful. I bet the one that denied you parts also said they are good for BMWs, else they wouldn't sign you up!

I seriously doubt that.

Of those with least problem, Route66 seems to be the one. Heard it mentioned on the forums from positive side more often than not.

Yeah I don't expect wear and tear to be covered but my FRM module is shot on my car now and the warranty company I have now won't cover anything. So I have to cancel that and pay out of pocket then get this warranty..... such a hassle

Route 66's warranty has a vehicle exclusion list which is mostly BMW and MB, plus a bunch of other exotics and other makes too. While it does cover some BMW's... it specifically states: "(Excludes all X Models)"

This was the info from Pen Fed's website? So I'm looking to pick up a private party 2011 and it has no warranty... What are my options? How dependable are these trucks?

Mine's been dependable. If it has a good service history, put the money in the bank and forget a ripoff warranty. However, per feedback on this forum, I'd never own an M without one.

I just called to get a quote from them (still at work didn't ask for details). Sounded pretty good. The total for my 2011 x5m for 3 years 45k miles came out to about 180 a month.

Something to consider. Thanks.

this is absolutely false. You can still buy a BMW extended warranty after your factory warranty runs out albeit with higher prices and slightly less choices of coverage lengths/mileage. There may be a time limit after said original warranty is over, but I know 100% that it can be done, b/c both options and prices were offered to me on a term sheet by my dealer when my M3 warranty ran out back in 2012. The coverages are the exact same versus buying extended warranty while under coverage.

The real question at hand is, OP will be buying a warranty with a pre-exisitng condition...kind of sound boarderline fraudulent, but it's not for me to decide. If you buy through BMW, they may want to do an inspection prior to sale.

OP, if you have a 2011-12 X5, I've gotten a quote for a post warranty BMW warranty from BMW of Alexandria (I use to live in NoVa too). I would take their quote and shop it around the country. Any dealer can sell you coverage btw.

However, I'm not sure if buying warranty is worth it to th OP. He didn't say what the problem is and how much it costs to fix it. An BMW extended warranty can cost $3k-$6k depending on coverage length and type. If the fix is even $3k, I would opt to just pay out of pocket.

Route66 covers x5s now. I have it. Pen fed's website is notoriously outdated.

I've read great things about Route66 and bought 8yrs/100k coverage for my 2012 x5. Ive not had a chance to use it yet (hoping I never have to!) - but the warranty seems to receive rave reviews from the 3 and 5 series owners in bimmerfest. X5 coverage was only added last year, so not many reviews to go by, though one forum member posted his invoice where Route66 covered over $7k worth of repairs on his 2007 x5 in this thread:

HTH to make a decision.

I bought my X5m and got their warranty through 125,000 miles. Matches BMW factory warranty and I believe was $2,500 extra. They are going to lose their ass on that one!

I went ahead and cancelled my warranty I got with the car but they don't refund the amount to me, rather they just put it back into my loan. The cost of the repair isn't much (FRM module), which is around $1000 but just annoyed I got a warranty that doesn't cover it.

BMW hasn't got back to me about extended warranty but I might just go ahead with the Carchex as I know a few people have them with other BMWs. It is $134 a month for 2 year coverage or 165 for 3 years. Just need to figure out which one I want now.

I checked their website and it is offered through various financial institutions. I don't have access to PenFed, who qualifies for this insurance and do they cover the X5M also? Would love to hold on to the truck for some time past warranty coverage.

If you are comfortable with it... could you post up or PM me what they quoted you for the price to extend out the warranty on the X5M? The situation like:
1) Was your car still under factory warranty/cpo/no warranty/etc...?
2) The year and approx mileage of your vehicle at the time?
3) Which plan you signed up for and the approximate price?
4) What is not covered on your vehicle with this warranty?
5) Any positive or negative experiences from actually making a warranty claim?

Please feel free to just share things you are comfortable with, I'll understand if you are not comfortable sharing any of these details.

what warranty is it? carchex? sounds a bit expensive..

For comparison, I obtained 8 yr/100K (i.e coverage till 2022 or 100K miles on odometer) for under $3K, including enhanced factory installed electronics such as navigation, back up camera, etc.

My car is at 72k now so a 10 year doesn't benefit me. I can get 3year/36k for $3900.

Which warranty do you have? Mine was quoted through Carchex with "high electronics" covered
