Also as an FYI this truck would see maybe 5-7k worth of use a year hiking trips and other small vacations.
I see your side here. To be honest, $30k and getting a X5d under warranty is unheard of...so the fact that you were able to find one with 1 year left on the warranty is a good buy, especially since you've set a hard budget and money IS the issue.

Thanks for your response. Makes me feel a little better. The mileage is a tad on the high side but given the fact it's a diesel I'm ok with that. My DD is an E46 with 168k on it and I've practically rebuilt the whole car aside from the engine and it runs like a champ. My E60 M5 had 99k before I sold it. My point is that maintenance is no problem for me to handle so higher mileage isn't too scary for me. And yes my budget is my limitation to low mileage vehicles. After looking at X5s with 20-30k for $35-40k I'm still convinced id never buy a new BMW even if I had the cash to do so.

The other way of seeing is, how the car was driven. A car that is say a 2011 or 2012 model with 75k means it was driven a lot on the highways, which is signficantly less wear than say a 2007 model with 75k miles driven in the city.

Case in point is my in-law's 2005 Honda Odyssey. It has 60k miles on it, but it was purely used as a city car in SF and it is beaten like a red headed step child of a ranging alcoholic step dad. Geez, that thing rattles, never has proper tire inflation, scraped wheels, a ton of dents and scrapes and a leak in the windshield seal.

Garage List
2010 E90 335i  [0.00]
2016 F15 35i  [0.00]
2003 E53 3.0  [0.00]
2006 E90 325i  [0.00]
My X5D budget is also $30k. The 2011 and 2012s I am finding are just not a good value. No warranty and lots of miles. The 2010 and 2009 are much closer to $20k, have the same lack of warranty and similar miles. 2009s have the added benefit of all Sports having AD (but with older iDrive ). I plan to spend closer to $20k and bank the rest for parts. I generally fix my own car so self insuring is possible for me.

So true when you think of it that way.

I was first looking at 2008-2010 and really determined that although they were cheaper, the CCC iDrive is just slow and clunky and I preferred the LCI update of the lights and bumpers. This is what made me raise the budget and go for 2011+

that's a good throught process. thought 2009 was when CIC navi was available...so basically

if you don't care about CCC idrive buy 2007-08 X5
if you want CIC buy 2009+
if you want LCI buy 9/2011+ build
if you want original factory warranty, today, buy late build 2012+
if you want remain CPO warranty, today, buy 2011+

Well I threw the guy a counter offer so we'll see if I'm going to be a new X5 owner soon. Appreciate the feedback everyone has provided. Hoping to have an answer today.

Well it's done. Locked in a deal with the seller for $27,750. Seeing that the truck needs to be transported I figure it'll probably arrive in about two weeks. Pretty excited about the purchase considering how rare it is to find one with this many options. The only thing I wish it had was LED coronas (early build) so I'll have to find a solution to that.

Looking forward to delivery so I can give it a really good cleaning. I'll also put together a build thread of my progress. You can see how meticulous I am about my cars by viewing my E46 thread here:

Anyways thanks again for your guys' feedback & comments. Pics to come soon.

Great news - congratulations!

I recognize your car/thread from E46F - your level of detail in cleaning your vehicle is incredible I've been a member there since '04 but don't really visit much anymore (still own a '05 330i ZHP).

Just for the record, E70 35d never got sport suspension. Just sport activity package for appearance, but without the better damping and anti-roll of the true sport pack. AD was a rare option on any E70, and seemingly much less so on the D.

Well only that on pre-lci x5 diesels the sport package bundled in AD which really did improve the handling.

Well, in Europe the AD was an option you could tick of for all X5 - also the 30/40D. I got it on my 30D (similar to the U.S. 35D) MSport
