Muffler Delete on my 4.8i - Pics

I fabricated and installed a muffler delete on my 4.8i E70 over the weekend. It's a fairly simple job. Parts used were:

- 2x 90 degree 2.5" mandrel bends
- 4x 45 degree 2.5" mandrel bends
- 2x dual 3.5" outlet, 2.5" inlet stainless tips
- 2x 2.5" exhaust clamps

For those curious, 16 gauge 2.5" exhaust tubing slips PERFECTLY right over the OEM exhaust pipes where they enter the stock muffler. This setup is also extremely easy to swap back over to the stock muffler if need be (with an exhaust band clamp setup).

To tame down the rasp, I will be adding two small resonators in the muffler delete pipes (Vibrant Performance Part No. 1792). This shouldn't change overall volume much, but should even out the high-notes.

Update:
Added two Vibrant resonators. Sounds much better. Still has all of the low bass notes without as much raspiness. Cold start video:

Do you have a video you can share so we can hear it? I've been contemplating on this lately.

I don't yet, but I can tell you it is pretty loud when you get on the gas. Cruising is relatively quiet.

I did the same muffler delete on my 3.5i and it was SO LOUD that I added the stock muffler the following day.

I can't imagine how yours will sound, even LOUDER.

Yea I have a muffler delete on my 07 4.8. It's a little loud at first and then it quiets down a tad, but at highway speeds at around 1800-2k it drones a bit and I have been wanting to do two mufflers back into it at some point if I don't trade it first.

I don't have much drone at highway cruising speeds (1900-2300 RPMs). It's actually pretty quiet cruising down the highway. It really only drones at 1500-1800 RPMs when getting on the gas. I'm going to look at adding a drone tube/J-pipe to get rid of it.

In addition to adding two small resonators to tame the higher-pitched rasp when getting on the gas hard, I will be adding 1/4-wave "j-pipe" resonant tubes to eliminate the drone from 1600-1800 RPMs. They will need to be about 30" long per side. Luckily, there is plenty of room back there to add these.

Total cost, including the resonators to be added is just under $300.

Yea you are right it doesn't drone when the gas isn't depressed at cruising speed but if I need to pass and i keep it in the same gear, at low rpms it definitely does! It sounds good when getting on it though.

Muffler Delete with different mufflers and straight pipes

I did the muffler delete and then added Mustang GT5000 mufflers.
It was still too quiet so, then I added the the straight pipes and found the sound I was looking for with no drone. Here are some sound clips.

Sorry to hijack OP's thread, which year GT500 mufflers did you get? I might pick those up and put them in myself!
