All I can say is if you do upgrade... make damn sure you’ve had bmw swap out your front driveshaft first. My stock ‘13 m-performance 50i blew out its driveshaft at highway speed and destroyed the transmission in the process, doing something like 20k worth of damage that BMW paid to repair. At the time as I understood it, bmw was quietly replacing them on 2013 models without directly recalling them (and recalled 2012 and older x5 models). I’m not sure if they’ve extended the recall to 2013 or not at this point... Mine was a 2012 build date 2013, and apparently it received the bad driveshaft as a result. Be careful! The driveshaft sheared off at the u-joint and impaled my transmission. Thankfully, bmw covered the whole thing. I can’t imagine adding HP and torque to that already weak recalled driveshaft would be smart. Eyeball it and make absolutely sure you have the new part. |
