Question X5 Diesel owners, relibality so far

Hi, I'm still a bit skeptical about any modern diesel engines (Direct Injection) but would want to know so far on how reliable it is?

Any problems so far to those who owns a diesel X5?

33k, no issues with anything mechanical.

Having been on this forum for a while, I can't say I've read any issues of failures or issues either.

22,000 miles and its perfect. The power is unbelievable.
Looking for a performance chip to beef it up.

Let me know what's out there.

21450 km and the engine is great (35d) only annoyance I have found over the last 2 years is that on very rare occasions the engine does not shut off instantly when you switch the car off - it shudders for like 2 sec after. Economy is almost 900km on a full tank (around 85litres) but just ordered a 2012 3 series as my wife refuses to drive the x 5 due to its size and not easy to park in tight spaces. Got till November to enjoy the X5 then it's cute sedan from then on

I have owned a total of 5, 3.0ltr diesel X5's since my first in 2003 and never had any trouble with the engines. My current M50d has 381hp and still has some basics of the orginal 3.0ltr diesel in the first E53 model.

I am currently getting 9.5ltr per 100klm city driving and my X5 has only done 2,000klm so far.

Don't think you can go wrong with BMW diesel!

Mine is 2012, I've put 20k miles in 10 months. No issues whatsoever with the mechanical side of things. Very comfy and practical ride too. However quite a few issues with climate and body construction that I didn't had in my both previous 3 series.

37k miles over 2.5 years on a 2011 35d. At 35k my check engine light came on and it was due to the EGR recall. The dealership fixed it 2 weeks ago and my 35d came out with more power than ever (and slightly lower MPG 21.8 vs. 23.4 prior avg.) 2 days ago, my check engine light came on again and diagnosis is TBD. Nothing feels wrong, still more power than ever.

32k miles in about 2 years, not one issue so far. Still drives and feels brand new if not better than new. If the new X's weren't coming out in a year I'd buy a 2nd

40k miles no issues whatsoever.
The X5 is parked curbside year-round, even in harsh winter conditions.

40,000km and asbolutely no issues with the diesel motor. Consumed approx 1.5 Litres of oil during that period.

The best thing is when you load the vehicle with the family and belongings for a weekend away and it feels as agile as driving solo. You never notice hills with a diesel that's for sure even fully loaded.

only dislike is the rattle noise of diesel when accelerating from a stop...otherwise a beast!

Mine is a 2011 X5d with 1 year of use and 7k miles only. No issues with reliability whatsoever. Just did my 1-year low-mileage service and had to fill up the urea tank that was low (normal according to SA).

I am a low-mileage user (short commute to work). Consumption in this conditions (short suburban drives) is not all it's cracked up to be, but when I stretch its legs on the highway, the efficiency is impressive, once I did 590 miles (950 Km) in a tank - always driving ~70 mph. I am sure it's easy to break the 600 mile mark if you drive at 60 mph.

35D

Well it is going to look like I have the oldest 35D here, but mine is 2009 X5.
Did not have any issues whatsoever ( with the engine or trannie )
They ( BMW ) just did my recall on the mixer ( yeah that's what it is called ) it is placed in the exhaust system right before the urea injector, neat stuff )
full exhaust system from the cat down. EGR, and something else.
I still love mine http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

32,000 miles in two years. Not a single problem or issue. Have had many vehicles including many exotics. This is by far my favorite vehicle.

May as well add my 2 cents! Have had mine almost 3 years and love it! Replaced the X5 3.0 and the power upgrade and fuel economy is a no brainer imo. On a flat interstate at 72 mph I get almost 30 mpg. Over 600 miles a tank unless you just hammer it.
