New X5d owner!

Hi All - I've been a BMW guy for a long time, but we just purchased our first X-bimmer....we found a 2011 X5 xDrive35d in Indiana that we are having shipped out to the west coast. It's going on a truck in the next day or so and we should have it within a week. We can't wait! We've owned quite a few SUV's over the years (GMC Yukon XL, Lexus RX, Dodge Durango, etc), but this will be our first German one.

Will post pics when I get the car out here, but the basics are:
2011 Alpine White 35d
Black Nevada Leather interior
Premium Package
Cold Weather Package
3rd row seats (I know they are tiny, but will work in a pinch for little kids)
Technology Package w/backup camera and parking sensors, Nav
Ventilated Seats
Rear Climate Control w/rear heated seats
Auto high beams

Can't wait to take it for a drive! Really looking forward to the fuel economy this will provide as well (compared to our beastly Yukon Denali XL that averaged about 13.5mpgs) If I can average 21 or 22mpg in mixed driving (highway/suburban w/tiny bit of city mixed in) I will be more than happy.

I've been posting on the e9x M3 board for years, but first time over here with you X-bimmer folks.

First Mod - probably some good winter tires. I hear the stock Bridgestone Duelers are crap in snow. I need something that is good in both wet rainy conditions and snow. (I'm in the Pacific Northwest) Thoughts?

Did you do a PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection using the CPO checklist as a guide) and a thorough visual evaluation, including paint and collision?

What were the results?

no, but got some good info from bmw dealer and car fax to know it was taken care of. Given that I realize I'm still taking a bit of a gamble, but it's a known risk I was willing to make given prices of similarly equipped cars out west here.

Also a BMW CCA member! Good to see we have some of them on here! I attended O-Fest in Monterrey last summer. What an awesome event!

I hear that about the availability of cars in the NW ... There is another member in the Seattle area who's shopping on the east coast. I'm trying to help him. More variety and more competitive pricing here, I guess. Plus Manheim auctions is in my back yard ... Lot's of X5's going through this area.

BMW CCA is a great organization. Note my "low" member number. Been in the club for 30+ years.

Yea, it's crazy here in the NW. The past two BMW's (now a 3rd counting the X5) have been bought out of state and have saved a couple grand+ each time (including the cost to ship). We only have 2 BMW dealers here in the NW, so maybe that's part of the reason.

CCA member for 30+ years, that's great! I've been with them for about 10 now...so nowhere near close to 30, but what a great club. I've attended many local CCA events over the years (driving tours, track days, etc). Always a great group of people to hang around with.

Congrats, a pretty loaded car. Do you mind sharing milage and price? I am in the market for 2012/13. I am hearing good stuff about the 35d's.

Congrats, we to just bought a 2012 vermillion red x5 3.5d, it had 25,000 miles on it still has full factory warranty and cpo warranty also. It has heads up display, cameras back up and side, premium, technology, sport package etc. love it only down fall now is gas is down 2.78 a gal and diesel is at 3.47 a gal. X5 still does real good in gas and on long road trips its a beast, does real well on fuel.

Congrats!

Sounds sweet - I just purchased a 2011 X5d too - and in mixed driving, averaging about 21mpg, and on the highway, can hit 30mpg - not bad considering the X5 is a 6500 pound car (at least mine is). I also have many of the same packages that you have too, and 59K miles, still an amazing car - love it! (check out my profile) My wife and I have to figure out who takes the X5!

Many safe miles, mate!

Welcome aboard!
What build date is your X5? I am curious if it has yellow halos or white coronas.

Technically not. Seattle area has 3 dealers (Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue), there's one in E.WA somewhere (Idaho or Walla Walla), 1 in Portland, 1 in Bend, OR.

But yes, prices stay high on diesels. I bought my 35d in Bend, OR. Saved a ton over what I would have gotten for in Seattle.

There are 5 dealers in WA & 6 in OR.

WA -
BMW Seattle
BMW Bellevue
BMW Northwest (in Fife, near Tacoma)
Camp BMW in Spokane
BMW Tri-Cities (Richland)

OR -
BMW Portland
Kuni BMW (in Beaverton, just outside Portland)
BMW Salem
BMW Eugene
BMW Bend
BMW Medford

Most of these dealers don't have much inventory for used X5's. Even the bigger ones aren't great. When I was searching BMW Northwest and Kuni seemed to come up most frequently.

Yes, you are technically correct..I was speaking of the folks in central Puget Sound. Tacoma and Eastern Wa or Oregon don't count. ;-)

It's early 2011, so I believe it has yellow halos.

For all of you Seattle folks, in the next couple of weeks you might see a giant ship coming rolling through heading towards the shipyard. That'll be me.
