As he got older, it became cheaper at $1500/month. We now have boy #2 and he'll probably go to daycare too. We had since moved so he won't be able to go to the same daycare unless my wife takes him with her on the way to work.

I feel your pain. If both kids were in the same daycare it would've cost $3k+/month. And the daycare tax credit is BS, little to no benefit.
Was this St. Andrews? I'm looking to send my nephew to this...

i need you to feel bad for me, hold my hand through this hell of a journey. do you understand how insecure i feel driving a 4 year old X5, might as well mow my own lawn maybe even clean my own home.....these thoughts are disturbing. next thing you know I actually treat the help with respect and have to get dirty with the peasants.
Camping for infamousdiz is the marriott with the windows open.

On a real note nothing prepares you for kids. i never said i can't pay child care i just do not like to pay it. I don't mind paying my federal taxes but my state taxes are bullshit.

The mis-management in your country astounds me. The health care and university costs are ludicrous. Yes, i know they are not "free" here or back home in OZ as the tax base is higher but still, you guys seem to piss away a lot of money on these two big sticker items.

I'm not sure how you can say you get no value from someone watching your kids and keeping them safe while you're at work. That's priceless actually. Can you imagine watching someone else's kids all day? Those people are saints, you're lucky to have them.

I have one in preschool and one in daycare and our childcare expenses are over $2k per month. My kids are going to public school so these expenses are only temporary. We don't complain about it. It's the cost of doing business.

I like my cars too but we've had to downsize in that area. That's just what you do. No one said this was easy. Hang in there.

YMCA TLC - The Learning Circle in Summit, NJ. Incredible school.

Note: the tuition for infants is actually close to $1900/mo but it'll come down to $1700 then $1500 for pre-K, if I recall correctly.

I long for the day where he starts kindergarten. Working professionals takes its toll on families. Cycle, drop off, pick up cook clean sleep work. I watch the 1 year old 2 days a weeks, so i get the ripping hair out, I also squeeze in average of 20Hours of OT a week too, she works 50 depending on patient load and there is always take home charting to do

My advice to anybody expecting their first child is "sell it to finance the next one". When child #1 turns 18, they will come and find you anyway, so you really didn't "sell" it, which makes baby selling perfectly legal.

Just make sure you do it right away, they are very easy to get attached to even though they are self-centered and sometimes kind of mean.

That doesn't mean that a gallon ceases to exist at the border. Do you guys do math there, or have you rejected that too?

(I fucking hate emoji's but that sounded super aggressive without one and I don't want to hurt any Canadian feelings.)

It's not pretty--the unreal rate of appreciation is the killer.

Back in 2013, I calculated that without aid, that $1,600/mo. needs to be saved from the hospital ride home, through age 22. Now you add that to daycare and it's $3,000/mo. from the hospital ride home through age 5, then down to $1,600/mo. plus after care.

Honestly, the 1%'ers can do the above, but how much you wanna bet they'd rather spend it on the latest new car they leased, etc.?

One thing to keep in mind, we were offered $250k for our child when he was born. Now that he's 29 mos., the price is only $22k. You have to act fast before they're toddlers.

THAT WAS A JOKE, BEFORE ANYONE SENDS THE FEDS OUT.

But, no joke our son has started modeling and the money goes into his UGMA. And he is 29 mos. There is no way in h*** a parent can just wait until age 18, and "figure it out," as far as college is concerned.

That's why I stress. I'm not a 1%er... I think something like 7-8%, haha...which is a HUGE difference from 1%-ers. Just a regular working stiff.

One good thing is my parents set up an account for my kids and it has quite a few duckets for their young age.

Did you know if your child gets accepted to harvard (maybe all the ivy leagues?) that they do a means test and you only pay what they think is fair (what you can afford...thats what 16 billion endowment can do), my co-workers kid was a track star and super smart he only pays 11k a year for harvard with room and board. Moral of the story...kids need to go to harvard....I should start to play the lottery
