2009 E70 X5 35D Fuel economy

Hello friends, Just bought 35D last month and i am not getting good fuel ecomy as they say on the books. It has 76000 kms (48000 miles) on it and i drive always watching my mpg dial and always watch my foot.I drive 50-50 hwy and city with normal traffic. The best i am getting is 11.2 litres/100 km (21 MPG).It has a CPO warrany and brand new bridgestone RFT tires and has a 3rd row but not a sports package..

Is it normal fuel consumption or i should take it to the dealer. Please advice me.Thanks

Get the ECU tuned. it will improve the fuel economy plus power added too.

Thanks spaniard, Do you mean ECU tuning from 3rd party or from the dealer. The problem is if i go to the 3rd party then my CPO warranty will be voided.

I get 30mpg on mine with a solid mix of driving. I also have a 3rd party tune, they can't see the tune in the computer. I took mine in and they didn't know until the test drive after the work was done.

I would not worry about the consumption for now since it's winter and diesel fuel is crap. Of course if you live in the really cold area. From my experience with a 335d the dealer will plug it in an tell you that there are no fault codes. I hope you have better luck than me. PS I'm getting 9.0 same conditions as you 50/50

Third party of course. Dealer cant notice the ecu is tuned until they test drive it.

But The dealer can overwrite the software on the ecu and the tune will be gone. A new re-tune is needed.

Those numbers seem normal. I have a 2010 35d and i only get 21+ Mpg with strictly highway miles. If this were a Petrol truck than you'd be getting closer to 16mpg mixed

Hello all and would like to post update.2 weeks ago i felt the smell of exhaust fumes in the cabin while first starting it during cold morning.I checked it under the bonnet and was coming from the rear right hand side of the engine.First i was thinking of common egr problem.Took it to the dealer and they found that throttle valve was leaking and they changed it.After that no more fumes and economy went to 8.5l/100km (27.6MPG) from 11.2l/100km with 50-50 hwy city driving.I am not fully sure because now the weather has warmed up too (around 10-12 degrees centigrade and before was around -5 degrees). But it was same fill up.So same diesel but warmer weather. Not sure if its the throttle valve or warmer weather that fixed it.

I've got a Superchip in my 40d. It raises spec to 340-350hp and 516 Lb Ft. 250kw/700Nm. Noticable increase but to be honest not really worth the money as the 40d/35d has plenty of grunt stock.

My fuel economy hasn't changed. On a diet of 65% urban, 35% vigorous extra-urban it stays consistently in the 28-30mpg range (~10 litres per 100km).

(which you could argue is an efficiency gain because it has stayed the same despite output increases )

To the OP - 11+ litres/100km is not good at all.
