S63 Turbo's Recall?

Everytime I'm on the phone with my service representative at Century West BMW he keeps telling me to "keep an eye out for the recall on these turbos, should be coming any day now". For the S63b44 and N63's for emission standards?

Has anyone else heard of this possible recall? I JUST bought my X5M.

I wouldn't be surprised. The n63 has been nothing but trouble for me.

How so, can you elaborate? What's the year/mileage on your vehicle?

Numerous failed injectors, piss poor mpg, burning excess oil. Never ever buy one out of warranty. Mine is a 2011 with 30k miles x5 50i msport.

The poor mileage is kind of expected with a 400 HP 5300 pound vehicle. I get >14 around the neighborhood (lots of stop and go and hills) but average 24 highway, so it balances out for me. My 2012 X5 50i had an oil change in August and I've added a quart of oil twice having put on less than 2500 miles since. Prettying annoying, but I can handle keeping a couple extra quarts in the trunk. Mine is actually going in tomorrow for a long list of little issues, I'll ask about the turbos. I'd never advise anyone to buy a BMW for its reliability, only for the enjoyment of driving it.

When I say bad mpg, I mean 6 city 10-12 highway. Mine has been a nightmare. It's also serves as a smoke machine for anyone interested in having one for their next party. It's in the process of getting bought back by bmwusa. I've had it with BMW. The only car I never had an issues with was surprisingly my e92 m3.

OK so far

I have had the injectors replaced. Otherwise no problems

Does eat a quart every three months. But no white smoke or anything.

I love my truck

Hmm, I've got an emissions light on right now, diagnosed to one of the O2 sensors in the right bank, but a potential turbo recall is something I'm curious about. I'm actually out of warranty, so anything I can get done off my dime would be outstanding. I'm actually going in for an oil change on Friday, will have to ask about this.

Subd. OP, any new info from your SA? I'll ask mine about it when I get back in town next week. Would love some free new turbos!

I just got my X5 5.0 back from the dealer today after having the engine removed so the valves and seals could be rebuilt / replaced. Fortunately, I had been complaining about burning oil and smoking for over a year so even though I am at 55,000 miles, BMW warrantied the $7,500 cost. SA said nothing about the turbos. Car has been in the shop for over two months this year, I am pretty burned on BMW's but can't figure out anything I would be happy with other than a BMW...
