Some Astounding MPG Results w/ My E35 Diesel

Had to drive 120 miles to pick up a family member at the airport. Filled up with Shell Bio-Diesel, ($4.12/gal in South FL) got right on Turnpike and set cruise control at 65 mph.

After 120 miles average mpg was an astounding 29.7. Tac was at a constant 1850+/- rpm and no traffic ahead of me. Was able to maintain speed all the way for the duration of the 120 mile trip.

On the way home I kept cruise at 74 mph with tac at about 2200 and the average was 27.2 mpg.

Of course we always knew that if you keep the tac below 2000 rpm you will optimize your mpg. I am also a firm believer that the marque of the fuel you use has an effect on your results. Their has always been Tier 1 and 2 fuels and using a Tier 1 is not only better for the vehicle but give better fuel mileage.

Yea it is funny especially when you get passed by a Smart Car, had to put a paper bag over my head to protect my identity! lol!

I had an extra hour to kill so decided to see what the E35D would do at 65 mph to kill some time as I never drive that slow. :-).

I get the same results in my 2013 35D LOVE IT!

Yes, I tried 55mph and the MPG is even better.. but I'd not try 55mph unless it's 1974 again.

Hmm...I might have to try that out since I usually drive around 70 mph here and my MPG is around 19 mpg. I would like to see some better gas mileage like you guys are talking about...

At 70mph you should be getting 26mpg. Unless it's uphill all the way. Still, 19 is worse than I get in city only.

Is the 19mpg calculation by hand or from computer? The computer is usually pretty acurate. Maybe get your vehicle checked.

It's from the computer. I rarely do highway right now...I'll look into taking it to the dealership but seeing the numbers that you guys are getting are making me wonder.

Wait, on one hand you said you were getting 19mpg at 70mph, now you saying you rarely drive on hwy. How did you measure the 19mpg? Is that your lifetime mpg, or for that short highway trip?
