Alcantra Sport Steering Wheel....

I really like the looks of the one for the X6 - squared off bottom etc..

I think I'm going to pull the trigger...Parts dept. is working up a price for me. I won't pay bmw retail

Anyone seen one up close and personal or have one?

I like it, the wheel on the X6 is just too thin, it was something that BMW should have had an option for from the beginning to be honest, I asked about it as soon as I got in for a test drive I'd prefer it in leather but alcantara will do I suppose, no prices for the UK yet though.

I have an OEM alcantra steering wheel in my M3 (part of the Competition Package) ... unless you take very good care of it, it will start to look horrible pretty quick. I would definitely not recommend it for a daily driver.

The ///M steering wheel is thicker, and covered in leather. There are so many upgrades on the ///M. Consider carefully between a loaded 50i and getting the ///M.

Thanks Gene...I know Frank well and have reached out to him for pricing. I'll check Tischer too.

I would say the biggest deal is not getting it dirty in the first place. It is a delicate material. You want to make sure your hands are always clean and oil free. Alcantara can get worn down (loose its soft/fuzzy texture) very quickly and can also pill up. I always wash my hands before I drive my M3 and I keep a small travel-size bottle of Purell hand sanitizer in the center console just incase (the alcohol in Purell gets rid of any oils).

I don't want to overly concern you, but if you are a perfectionist Alcantara can be pretty annoying, especially for a daily driver.
