22" tires - will my idea work?
Hey all, I have been working for Mercedes-Benz for some time now and the newer GLE cars ride great on 22's.
When I looked into going with 22's on my E70 I saw the main downside was the ride quality, I'm sure a big contribution to that is the thin sidewalls. On these Mercedes they are running 285/40R22 and 325/35R22 Here are a few reasons why I want to run these sizes: 1. Given calculations of the most common 22" tire size (295/30R22 and 335/25R22), they actually do NOT have the same rolling diameter. The fronts measuring 737mm and rears measuring 726mm. The rears will rotate 9 times more than the fronts EVERY mile. 2. The sizes 285/40R22 and 325/35R22 combination has a ~1mm rolling diameter difference between front and rear. 3. The larger sidewalls *SHOULD* be more comfortable. My concerns are will they rub the tops of the arches with lowering springs? And why has no one ran this size or figured out the issue with the other more common size? THANKS! |

it gets a bit complicated since lowering is in the game as well..
i d check the optimal ET value for 22"s as a first step..

My concern is dips and bumps causing the top to hit the tire. Like big bridge expansions and what not. The rolling diameter is 31" in the sizes I'm asking about. I saw someone on here with an F15 running 275/45R21 and 315/40R21, which has a rolling diameter of 30.9" and he had little to no issues. Not sure if he is lowered though! |
