H&R Springs
Hey group, figured I would ask the experts (you) about the height concern I have. I just had the H&R 1.2 springs installed on my 2011 X5M. I had a specialist do it at the BMW dealer. The rear is air suspension. It looks great but the back end is sitting a little lower than the front. Not exact measurements but from the ground up the back is about 1/8th inch lower. Is it because the front springs have not settled completely yet? Should I raise the back end a little? If I measure from the center wheel up then the back is about 3/4 inches lower. I tried to add a pic to show you but was unsuccessful. Thanks for your help guys.

For the love of God, please post pics. I'm so undecided on the 1.2" kit or the 2" kit. Thanks.

I just sent JupierBMW some pics to post for me as I was having trouble doing it. Thank you for your help. JeST, I only did the 1.2. Anxious for you to take a look at my pics and see if you think the back is too low. I am going to follow the advice from AudiR8Fan and let them settle in but anxious for your guys thoughts.

Normally takes about a weeks worth of driving before new springs settle. I wouldn't worry about the height until then or you'll end up fussing with the rear links again once they do settle.

Here are the pics you sent me... Looks damn low, especially for the 1.2" kit.

Thanks for uploading the pics. I know I ordered the 1.2 springs but also questioned it when the dealer said the fronts were 2 inches lower and the back was 1 inch lower. But based on the ride (I am in Michigan with crap roads), as long as the sport suspension is not turned on, it rides good. No complaints to be honest. So that is why I am thinking they are the 1.2 drop. The sport suspension, on a smooth asphalt road is sick. There is zero body roll at all. Cant wait for the Forgestar F14's to get here. 8 week ship. ugh. Thanks guys for the input. greatly appreciate it!

So I must have let my son borrow my good tape measure but my old stick tape measure is as follows. Rear (from rim to bottom of fender) 26 3/4 and front is 27 1/4. Does that sound about right?

I am going to do what you suggest and let it settle for 2 weeks and then will make the adjustment for the rear to be slightly higher. If I figure out how, I will post pics after I get my new wheels on it in the next couple of weeks. Thanks again for everyone's help!

I have had the 1.2" H&R kit on my 2011 35i model for the last 3 weeks and the springs have settled up at 31" from the ground to the bottom of the fender on the front and rear of the car. I have the base suspension (no self-leveling rear) so its a pretty straight forward 4 coil spring installation. The results have been pretty much spot on with the front lowering about 1.1" and the rear lowering about 1". The ride has been superb on the orange county streets, body roll has been significantly reduced as well. Ive heard that this same kit on the V8 models results in the car settling a bit lower due to engine weight. Maybe thats why OP's looks lower? Just my observation

Looks good. My Forgestars will be here on Thurs so this sat I will put them on and make any adjustments on the rears. Still looks lower than the front so the adjustments need to be made. I will try to upload some pics once done..

I put the 1.2 H&R springs on my 2011 M Sport and added some F14's as well. Looks great. Ride is not great, I suspect the rear is lower than it should be. I guess I need to take it in and add 1/4-1/2" to hopefully improve the ride. Rides like a bucking bronco on the freeway on dips.
If I can figure out how post pictures, I'll throw some on. Carbon black with gun metal F14's. |
