X5 35d check engine light question

We have a 2012 35d with about 105k on it. The check engine light came on a week ago and I took it to a local mechanic to have the codes read. The codes were 00433a, 00480a, 004d16.

He said that he doesn't work on diesels very much, but that the codes would require the "DPF to be cleaned or replaced." He stated that the part was extremely difficult to get to and a new one was close to $3k and recommended having it cleaned instead. He said that the other codes had to do with a "charged air intake sensor and a NOX sensor."

The proposed service to repair all is around $4k. We love the car, but I don't want to keep dumping money into it if we can avoid it. I have heard that the 35ds have been pretty reliable and this is our first real issue with it.

Is the repair estimate accurate? Any other D owners experience anything similar?

Thanks for any info in advance!

I have a 2011 35d and I had my DPF and SCR tank replaced under warranty at 70k miles, I believe BMW extended the warranty to 10/120k miles. I would check with your local dealer.

This should be correct, they extended the warranties for both. I believe you can have the NOX sensors replaced under warranty as well. Take a trip to the dealership and see what they say.

I've made an appointment. I'll report back with the results.
