not sure if any of u guys are still need these partitions...

after Alex's reply I went to eBay and put them (set of 3) in to my cart but was still hesitant to order, anyway eBay has a promotion right now with $15 coupon from $30+ purchases only if payed by PayPal, there are some other conditions like u need to be eBay user etc., pretty standard stuff

with this coupon I ended up paying $27 shipped

I couldn't resist anymore even if I have to do some massaging on the parts

Let me know if u need the discount code and I'll send it to u! (I will go save it right now, I believe it's gonna work until 10/28/2017)

EDIT: just checked looks like the discount code they gave me says Expired (probably they generate different code for different users) but I'm sure you will probably get one too!

Also, to buy parts, I'd highly recommend BMW Topeka's online store. Cheaper than any other place that I've seen (I bought it from getbmwparts, which was the cheapest before I was aware of Topeka).

HTH.
The part #'s for the three partitions are:

Left 51717169419

Right 51717169420

Center 51717169421

We keep these in stock here if anyone needs a set. PM me for a special holiday deal on 'em!

I just ordered a set of these, will see how they fit soon, and I loved the idea of the gold foil tape, so doing that as well.

I was planning on doing the vacuum pump the same day, but since I pulled out the sagging broken partitions, I have not had a bad smell under high load, so that may not be needed.

I just installed the upper partitions. Got them on ebay. Mine were fine but just looked homeless. Anyway, the cheap eBay ones fit fine. Not even close to 100% but they're decent and they look new. I'll update with pics. To make a long story short, of yours are damaged the cheap eBay ones are just fine.

Got my chinese partitions in, they don't line up 100%, but good enough for now. I need some new covers I think, the little black portion is missing on the front, and the main cover is rather heat damaged...

Looks good
I got same partitions and gold heat resistant tape as well but waiting for warmer weather to install (did u put the tape before or after installing the partitions?

I'm not sure which black portion u referring to but if u talking about the one in the very front, good luck finding one, unfortunately its part of full assembly and they don't sale it separately

I taped them before install, while sitting at my desk at work haha.

The two issues that I had with fitment...

The holes on either side of the center piece were too small for the plastic clips, and after I drilled them out to fit, one still ended up splitting when I installed them, so it needs a better long term solution.

The OEM panels have small pads on the bottom corners, and I had to drill out holes to attach them to the chinese ones.

When you go to change them, you will have to remove the cabin air filter box, so it might be a good time to change those out as well.

I was afraid that I would have to replace that whole portion of the front airbox, but it looks like it's only ~20$.

I also removed the whole airbox to check for leaks on the engine, and found that whoever had it apart last had not installed the clips right, so hot dirty air was getting sucked in behind the air filters....

Honestly it was not that bad at all. Looking at some other pictures, the stock partitions use screws where I thought I needed to use the plastic clips, so that was my whole issue there.

The small holes for the pads are 10 seconds with a drill, and 30 seconds to remove from the old ones.

I was wandering around and doing other stuff as well, and it took me around 20 minutes to change them out.

As I look at them, I do wish that I did one thing different. I started taping at the top and worked down, but if I had gone from the bottom up, the top tape would be the widest, and it is the one you see the best. Also there is a chance for moisture to collect on the lip of the tape, and it would be on the bottom side the other way. Oh well.

another good tip
I'll make sure to start from the bottom
I have the partitions just waiting for the tape to arrive, it's been over a month since I ordered it in China thru Ali.

Need some help...

I'm in need of the underhood seal that sits on top of the partitions that I'm replacing. I've been through the forum's search tool and many BMW parts pages (www.realoem.com, etc.), but I cannot find the part number nor any reference to it.

If you've replaced this part, where did you source it and what is the part number?

Thanks, all.

Also Bmw changed the formulation with more glass added to the parts for strength. The new ones will appear slightly more silver in appearance.

Also the design in the center has changed and won't require the rubber gunk the frost ones needed.

I completely forgot about this thread

I replaced my partitions couple of months ago, I put Chinese partitions, they went in perfect without any massaging needed, also I put the heat tape and it's ok. I started from the bottom and worked my way up!

I can see now that tape started to come off at the bottom, not a big deal but something to know!

Dont bother with OEM, Bought $50 Chinese knock-off partitions off ebay. Took about 10 min to replace. Good as new.

Just another hint, for the guys doing the foil tape. I would clean them first, just to remove mold release residue, before installing the tape, just to aid adhesion. I didn't do that on mine, and the tape is not sticking very well once in use.
