X5M Rear Brake Pad Replacement

I'm starting to hear some squealing at low speeds when coming to a complete stop. According to my i-drive it's telling me the front pads are good for another 31k miles and rears are good for another 11k miles. I did a visual inspection without removing the wheels and it seems the rear pads are starting to get low. I would rather replace the pads and break wear sensor now before it involves getting new rotors as well. Can anyone recommend a decent set of pads or should i stick with OEM? These are for an 2011 X5M by the way. I appreciate any advice

There are always better performing brakes from the aftermarket. Add to that, they are often lower in cost, and could dust less. You need to decide on what you really want.

OEM is simple, and a safety line to many.

Centric makes great low cost rotors if they have your fitment, and Stoptech makes a great pad as well. But pads are super subjective. Where one may like a pads initial bite, others will want more or less; or say it dusts a lot...

I agree OEM is the most simple solution to most but they do create lots of brake dust. I just want to make sure whichever brand i go with is safe since my wife and daughter occasionally take it. Also are the brakes as easy to replace as any X5 on my own? I refuse to pay the stealership or an independent mechanic for something i've done on my own since i was 16

Easy to do. If you need a hand/tools bring it to my house. But before you buy new pads I would try and go a cheaper route of applying never seize to the rear and the ears of the pads. I might still have my brake pad depth gauge still somewhere (sensors dont touch until about 3mm).

That would be great, I'm going to look into buying the brake pads this week hopefully. I'll give you a call or text to see when you have some spare time, thanks again bro

Personally, I say don't waste your money on SS lines. I've put them on a few BMWs and they never seem to really improve pedal feel. On other cars, they were night and day, I think BMW lines are pretty good. As for pads for the X5M, you're very limited in options for the OEM calipers. I went with the centric posi-quiet, super low dust, performance is as good as stock for our driving style, and super inexpensive.

I had the ss lines on my M3 and it was a big difference between stock, but i'm starting to realize that BMW must of put some good brake lines in already for this overweight beast. That's the 1 reason i want to go aftermarket for the price and brake dust alone, either that or just get use to cleaning my wheels everyday

I just ordered front and rear centric posi quiet semi-metallic break pads along with centric front and rear break pad wear sensors for $202...not too bad compared to OEM

I was looking at my stock lines and there's no point... The rear lines have 2 sections. One which runs across the top of the subframe and then the secondary which goes to the caliper. It's going to be a pain in the ass to get to...

Make that $ brotha I have carpets being installed next week sometime, not exactly sure which day yet. Between the carpet and the new wooden floors I'm installing, the following weekend might be easier if you're available. Hit me up and let me know

You need to replace the low pad sensors every time there is a pad change? How much are the sensors?

There's break wear sensors 1 in the front and 1 in the rear, my sensors were still good so i kept them and replaced both with the new ones i bought just because i changed front and back pads. You only need to replace them if their worn. Front and back sensors cost me around $60
