I wouldn't base your purchase decision on whether the N63 work has been done or not, but that's just me. Other than the inconvenience of bringing it into the dealer, the work is obviously free. And if you buy one from a BMW dealer, have the work done before you drive it home.

A 2012….well, it's a year newer and could still have some factory warranty left depending on the in-service date. There were some package configuration changes for 2012 w/ additional options included as standard - see the link below. Overall there's not much difference between the years. Part of the price disparity you're seeing between 2011's and 2012's is the fact no warranty would remain on a 2011. You'll notice that with most cars I'd imagine, and definitely on BMW's…once the factory warranty expires, you'll see some savings in the price.

I will buy either way the extended warranty for both years. I have this 2012 m-pck too but no heads-up display as one the 2011 posted. Also do yu know about the sky view camera on 2011. I understand has to have the 2 cameras on the side to project the top one. I don't see the cameras in the 2011 above the sides reflector. But I do see them in this 2012.

I highly recommend getting familiar with the X5 packaging, which can differ from one year to the next, and using a VIN decoder. You cannot trust these vehicle descriptions.

This 2012 that you posted would have HUD as it has the Technology Package - the indicator is the side view cameras (and the decoder, of course). This is different on 2011's as the Technology package was re-configured for 2012 on the 50i. I believe in 2011, HUD and side view camera were standalone options on the 50i, and in 2012 both are part of the Technology Package (along with automatic headlights).

When you say 'sky view' I think you mean the top-view camera. The cameras used to project this image on not those on top of the front reflectors, but rather they're mounted underneath the side mirrors. The top view is part of the Premium Package on 2012's 50i's and I believe part of the Technology Package in 2011's 50i's. The Tech package included a lot of stuff on 2011's - for 2012 they moved a lot of these features to the Premium Package and the Tech Package had just the 3 items I listed above. Clear as mud right!

So I just ran this 2012 VIN through the decoder - it has some real nice packages and options -

Black Sapphire Metallic (ad is wrong as it states Jet Black)
M Sport Package w/ optional 20's
Premium Package
Technology Package
Cold Weather Package
Leather Dashboard
Soft Close Doors
Active Steering

It's also a late 2012 build (1/23/2012) so it has the steering wheel mounted paddle shifters - not many 2012's have these.

From where can I get the vin decoder that you used. My main concert if it has heads-up display. I know in 2011 is an option pck. Will be in 2012 in the tech pck?

Yes the HUD is part of the 2012 Tech Pkg, I have it.
Its great for long trips, highway driving, and especially when using NAV on unfamiliar routes, as the NAV instructions are shown with the speed, etc.
Around town I just turn it off.
