Should N63s be avoided? 35i or M a better choice?

We're shopping for an SUV and naturally I'd like to stay with BMW. I'd much prefer a 50 over the 35 but the issues with the N63 engine are concerning.

Does BMW's 'solution' permanently fix the problem(s)? Does BMW increase the warranty coverage of the N63? Would an S63 be a better choice than the N63?

Thanks for any advice or opinions you care to give!

The parts prone to failing on the n63 are also us d on the s63. BMW m being a separate division has chosen not to acknowledge the issue.

I have both the 50i and the M and both are trouble free fast and powerful trucks...I had the N63 campaign work done back in February and BMW will cover any part replaced up to 2 years. Since the work the 50i has ran perfect but it still drinks oil like it drinks gas...I recommend getting the M, it's a lot more fun to drive and with a few mods you have yourself a BEAST on steroids! There's nothing like having 2 gas guzzling slobs

We shopped the 35i and 50i last year - both great vehicles but went with the 50i for the additional power. It does drink oil like crazy but otherwise no issues - been a great vehicle.

Everyone's comfort level on risk is different. I knew about the n63 campaign going in, and took the plunge anyway. That campaign doesn't mean you won't have issues on any other model, btw...
I am confident you will make the right decision for you.

Thanks for the responses. I was hoping to hear the N63 'fix' is a permanent one, or that at least BMW would extend the warranty. Gonna continue researching this one...

I'd check out the diesel over the 35i. The torque is fantastic.
