How do X5d's Heat-up so Quickly?

Living in Alberta where temperatures regularly exist below -30 C (-22F), the X5 diesel warms up so fast, that it even out performs most gas engines.

Why is this? Is there a new method of heating the air?

I do note that the engine revs higher when starting in cold conditions but my other vehicles that are diesels when revved higher still don't perform the same as the X5D.

Anyone have any insight to this wonderful feature?

There's an auxiliary electric heater in the climate unit for your comfort; the engine itself heats up no faster than any other diesel.

There is a lot of trickery that can be done here. slightly richer starting mixture, advanced timing, higher idle RPM, EGR, etc... An engine is an engine; they'll all do it the same one way or another.

Guess I should clear up that I was seeking the answer of why the cabin heats up so fast.

Auxiliary electric heater makes sense. Was hoping someone like yourself had a definitive answer.
