What do you guys think?
When I got my jet black X6 50i, there were some things I didn't like about the exterior appearance...namely the orange side markers (up front) and the red reflectors in the back. I also didn't like the silver surrounds for the fog lights...so, I had them painted out...thoughts?
I think it looks much better... JC |

I think it looks much cleaner. Did you just take it to a body shop and have them paint it or did you do it yourself? How much did it run you. I think I will do the same. I like how that turned out

I actually like the European (clear) side markers and will replace the orange one with the clear ones once I get my car.
Nice job though!

Thanks...I actually had the body shop order a second set of front and rear reflectors and they painted them...and they removed the silver surrounds (for the foglights) and painted those...just snapped right off...really easy. The whole thing ran me around $400 including all parts and labor...great body shop that has worked on my other cars.
The next phase of my painting will be the silver front and back underbody cladding...I hate the way the standard silver underbody protectors look. I think it will look a lot better after that is done, and will draw less attention to the eye when it is all blacked out. |

Car looks great though. Each to his own. PS) whats the legal stance (if any) on painting out side markers?. |

Nice job !
The plastic surroundings of the fog lights are really ugly. Don't like the orange reflectors in the front.. The red reflectors at the back I do not dislike them.. Just a matter of taste I guess... Then I wonder if this allowed in Europe, off course if you have a spare set, you can always put the reflectors back in... |

Yeah, the red in the back didn't bother me as much as the orange markers up front or the foglight surrounds, but I figured since I am doing some of it, I might as well do it all.
Here are photos of before and after (rear)...I actually prefer it without the red. Car seems sleeker. Now I just have to have the silver lower area painted...that I hate. |

Not sure about the red in the back but agree about the fog lights they should all be painted black so they disappear into the vent openings.

Everything you've done so far are great improvments, job well done.... But the silver part on the rear does seem to add some nice uniqueness to the car I would personally keep it silver. But I am very interested to see what it will look like after you paint it black... keep up the nice work

I assume that your paint shop uses high grad automotive paint for the job you have in mind (Bottom rear cover). I'm just wondering how well this paint will hold up considering that this part is exposed to flying gravel and other debris from the road!?!
Just checked the parts database for the X6... This part is only available in silver!

The paint shop said it will be easy and addressed that very issue...I trust them as they primarily work on high-end cars such as Aston, Bentley, Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc... I got referred to them for their high-end work...and they have worked on 2 of my previous cars for me, both Bentleys.

I agree,
I will consider color-matching the Fog inserts aswell. The front Orange reflectors due suck so i will look for clears but the rear Red does not bother me enough to change. plus color i think makes a difference. i have DSB. My issue is the 22" wheels. the Rears ONLY come in 315-30-22 and that is WAYY to low for me on this X6 50i so....maybe i will go with 20s... Looks Good either way jeff, thanks for sharing

Thanks...I also am considering changing the wheels...I HATE the gap in the wheel well...I have the 20's, which ride fine, but am debating making a change after a while to give it a new look...perhaps in 6 months or so. Has anybody done aftermarket wheels for their X6's?

Yes.
I have but.....I have not installed them yet (cause i do not take delivery until 23 Oct) I kind of pre-ordered the same wheels i have on my E46 M3 in 22s but when i saw the "Recommended" tires sizes I had an immediate issue with the Rear tire size. 285-35-22 front 315-30-22 Rear Continental Cross Contact UHP I am exhausting my efforts to find a higher or "thicker" rear set of tires.I am just not comfortable with 30s in the Rear. I have 265-40 and 285-40 on my Cayenne and I have done very well on those but the X6 50i is heavier than my V6 Cayenne... On the Cayenne i did not have a weight issue. the aftermarket wheels were a few kgs lighter than OEM. on the X6 50i I suspect my aftermarket 22s will be lighter when the run flats are factored and compared in a combo wheel/tire comparo. i don't know.... i am getting a headache.

Actually got rid of it back in February...had it for 6 months...but got tired of it and with such amazing deals on cars these days (Porsche), couldn't pass it up...got a 2009 loaded 911 C4S PDK cabriolet for the same lease payment as the X6!!! Couldn't stomach paying that much for an $81k vehicle...now I feel better.
I guess I just missed having a sportscar, and my wife has the Cayenne GTS, so we still have a truck in the family if I need it...and I do prefer the GTS to the X6, too...for what it is worth. JC |
