Loose Steering Issue
Hello,
I noticed one day while driving that the steering on my '12 x5 suddenly felt loose. The steering originally had a heavy weighted feel. It feels now like the steering is "sloppy" and "loose , not as precise as it used to be. I had the car checked out by an indy, they stated all steering components seemed ok. Would a wheels alignment be a fix? Of course this happens just 2 weeks out of my cpo warranty ending. Tire pressures checked and are good. Anyone have an idea of what the cause could be? Possible solutions? Thanks. |

I don’t think alignment has anything to do with that. I will just replace the power steering fluid and see if that will helped. My 35d have a slightly difference in steering feel after a power steering fluid change.

Sounds to me more like either a worn rack & pinion or (if these cars even have this) a valve in the hydraulic lines which automatically reduces flow as speed increases in order to allow for less effort while parking and a firmer, less sensitive feel when cruising at highway speeds. Maybe yours is wide open at speed?
