LED experiences?
I'm getting ready to trade the trusty X5 and move on to the 2013 X6...but I'm wondering about the LED lights. I love the Xenon's in my X5; do the LED's provide a brighter, longer view of the road or is this just a cosmetic/aesthetic thing? Anyone have opinion/experience regarding improved visibility? Thanks.

Next to Audi's full LED headlight system that is optional on some of their models, this is the next best thing in automotive lighting technology. Besides the fact that they look awesome, you can absolutely tell the difference from any other type of lighting system to these. And did i mention how cool they look. Worth the $1900 option in my book.

900 mile drive back home from Greenville/Spartanburg after my 2013 X6M delivery... Some of it was at night. The LED lights are awesome. They are very white and bright. Even with multiple cars on the road, I could always tell when a road sign came into range of my LED's. They were much brighter and produced much better contrast on the roadsigns (and road markings)...

Back roads all the way! (No Highway/Cruise Control for break-in). Although the first part was through the twisty roads in the Blue Ridge Mountains (BIG fun!), the last part was a loooong course through the central US. Stretches of 50-60 MPH 2/4 lane road punctuated with regular doses of Hometown USA (inc traffic lights, stop signs, etc).
The 5500 RPM (and 100 MPH) break-in limit leaves lots of room for fun. Somehow, I even managed to escape any "enforcement actions"... Lots of time to get to know the onboard systems though... |

I used the headlights for the first time last night. Yes, these things are bright. Better than the HID in my Infiniti FX45 and my wifes GL450. High beams are excellent, but just short of the GL450, which is exceptional. Definately worth the upgrade. I will look to get the WeissLicht PY24W led replacement bulbs for the turn signals though. The picture of the original thread showing the turn signal bulb is accurate. Cheers, |
