my car has 255 50 19 on it. I wanted to change them to 20 and something wider, would that create any issues?

No issues as long as you stay with factory 20” options - 275/40/20 & 315/35/20

If you don't have the wheel arches/fender flares, it's going to look silly, those 20's will poke out way too far. What's your current setup...what 35i trim (base, premium, sport, M sport) do you have?
