Call your dealer and ask. Just because you have not been mailed a notice doesn't mean its not up for it. I would be the large majority of the X5's require it. I also was talking with my service advisor about it, he was telling me that they don't even inspect anymore, they just replace them.

A sidebar, I also did an oil change a few weeks ago, and suddenly my oil usage has stopped. I wonder what was actually in the motor. I am glad I did not wait to long on that then. I am running BMW Twin Power 5w30 oil I got from the dealer. I am at over 600 miles and the oil level has not dipped below all the way full since having it done. Before I would be at least halfway down if not near 1/4 low. I had an oil change sticker from a Hyundai dealer, so maybe they just had the wrong stuff in her.

More than likely didn't have the correct oil so it's good you swapped it out. For future diy oil changes I would look at Mobil 1 ESP oil as an alternative. I personally prefer Mobil 1 having seen how engines look inside compared to other oils and the ESP has good specs.

Thank you for the oil advice, I am not terribly worried about my oil choice with this motor, as long as it meets the BMW LL standard as the OEM requires. I am not going crazy long on the oil changes like BMW is saying is ok, I am doing 5k changes.

Scratch what I said in regards to oil usage, I am still at a quart every 750 miles. I believe I just had the engine overfull, so it lasted significantly longer.

So that is an FYI, the oil level sensor, will not read overfull, even though it has wiggle room above the full mark in the iDrive menu.

I replace the boost pressure sensor, or map sensor, in bank 2 (drivers side) of the motor. I have been going into limp mode and coding for a boost sensor 2. It took a solid amount of time, but I do know the process now, and if I had to do it again, I could take at least half the time to get it done. I will be posting another thread on the job, no pictures, just a description.

This 160$ sensor didn't fix my problem. I have to pull codes, and see if it was the wrong side. If it is, the passenger side seems like it would be a bit easier, as the reservoirs are not on the passenger side.

You have to know what your code is before you complete any work. Otherwise your wasting your time and money.

We may have different issues that are causing the limp mode. So find a way to pull the BMW code, then work the troubleshooting from there.

My truck is currently get a "Engine hot! Drive moderately - Engine temperature is high" any time I start the truck. Even after a night of cold soak. From searching, I believe this may be due to a failed aux or turbo water pump. I have to start a thread, and see if anyone has run into this before, and how they may have troubleshot the issue.

Cut Muffler

I removed the rear muffler. I was going to build a temporary tailpipe with the stock muffler turn outs tips just to give a trial run of the muffler being off.

The stock size exhaust looks to be 2.75", so it may actually be somewhere around 70mm, or 69mm. Local auto parts do not seem to have anything in that size. With my location, I had an abundance of 2.5", 3", and 4" (diesel trucks). I just hope since its USDM built truck, it is not metric. 2.75" seems like it will mesh up. I am going to order some parts to get it finished all the way out of the rear, for now its just dumped behind the differential.

This is a trial period to see if my wife , and I, are ok with the noise level of the truck without the muffler. If I don't like it I will move up my time table on the catless DP's, get those, and get a shop to pop some mufflers (dynomax or magnaflow) out in there rear.

It has a sound more like a pushrod motor, and in higher boost levels, it actually seems to quiet up. If anyone has ever had an american 'sport' car with a catback (think SLP loudmouths on a camaro or firebird) the sound level is very similar. If anyone wants a catback sound bordering on the noisey level, this is the way to go. If you have hesitations on noise level for a catback, this is a poor choice, but I like it. I have certainly had significantly louder DD's.

my wife bought me a set of black grills locally. I have installed them, and I think it looks better then the silver, but being an OEM part, it still kind of matches up with the chrome trim around the sides of the truck. Pictures to come once I get around to cleaning my dirty truck

After living with my muffler removed for 3 weeks, I have deemed it perfect for me. I took my dad out to get lunch in it, he did comment, "it isn't to loud, but I would prefer it just a little quieter." So to those moderate car people in the world, just switch to a different rear muffler(s), any exhaust shop should be able to accommodate for a few hour labor and some materials. I will take videos at some points, and pictures off the muffler to tailpipe section.

Problems that I've encountered with the N63 in my X5 (beyond the BMW covered "campaign"):
1 - Leaky turbo coolant hose (fixed);
2 - Cracked coolant reservoir (fixed);
3 - P052B engine code indicating possible VANOS issue (not fixed);
4 - P0456 engine code indicating possible Evap leak or symptom of issue #5 below (not fixed);
4 - Excessive oil consumption coupled with smoke from tail-pipe from idle indicating valve stem seal leak/wear (not fixed).

Otherwise, love the engine!

I believe the oil consumption may be through the PCV. Though it could be through the valve stem seals, I have found there is oil in at least one intake manifold. That is most likely through the PCV.

I knew all this would/could happen before I bought the truck. The past 3 daily drivers I have had, have used more oil then this BMW, though it was cheaper to buy.

I have gotten multiple 'that sounds good' compliments on the cut muffler. A must do for someone who enjoys mods on their rides for sure.

added black grills. I believe these are off a 6 cylinder X5, or a non LCI X5. Someone may chime in as to what they are off of, but they match the black with chrome look on the side of the truck, so I like them.

My BMS stage 1 came in yesterday, and was installed today. Runs reallllyy good. I believe this is a good solid DD and 30,000+ miles a year kind of tune.

Car is coding for a cylinder 1 misfire at high RPM and high load situation. Working towards a new coil pack and plug.

I hit a small deer, so my grills got damaged. My buddy did OEM color grills on the grills I had laying around for me, AND lowered my deductible to boot!
