Google Search through navigation system

Anyone know if the Google search on the navigation is suppose to be working? Mine just times out and says it is not available. Is it suppose to be working or is this something for a future upgrade to the communication box?

Not sure if we are talking about the same thing. When you are in the navigation screen, you choose "points of interest" gives you the type like restaurants, sports complexes etc, there is an option for Google search as well. I hit it, it gives like a thinking spin circle then times out, says not available I believe.

Mine is working but the previous post is correct as you first have to pay for the SOS for a year and it will connect.

You can access search from navigation menu or BMW assist menu. It's awesome especially sending your exact car position to someones email through google maps.

I have a 2011 x6 5.0.

Mine is working 100%
I think you need to sign up to bmw online for it to be enabled though

BMW Assist™ MyInfo FAQ Overview Safety PlanConvenience PlanHands-free CallingHow it WorksFAQMyInfo FAQ Select a frequently asked question.
What are the requirements to be able to use MyInfo via Google Maps™ (http://maps.google.com)?
If you are driving a 2008 X6 produced 4/08 or later or any 2009 and later BMW Assist-equipped BMW (except X3) and have a valid BMW Assist subscription, you will be able to send and receive the destination and phone number in your vehicle through MyInfo.

How can I send business listings or street addresses to my BMW?
Just visit maps.google.com and search for any business or street address. When it appears, click "Send", choose "Car" and select "BMW", then type in your e-mail address on file with BMW Assist as the account name, a personal note if desired, maybe a phone number, and hit "Send".

How do I find the Google Maps destination in my BMW?
When you get into your BMW, simply select “MYINF”, "MyInfo" or "Messages" under the BMW Assist menu option on your radio or iDrive display to find the desired destination and associated phone number. You can now call the phone number directly with your Bluetooth® linked mobile phone or if your BMW is equipped with the BMW Navigation system you can start route guidance.
