Sorry to rain on your parade, this is a known BMW direct injector problem. They are aware of it but no solution except to replace them. But they would wait until you get an error code before they will do that. And only on 2nd return trip they will replace all the injectors. Been through this with them several times already.

So I see anywhere from 5 to 10 BMW X5 on a daily basis.. all of which has the black stains on the exhaust tip and on the bumper trim around the exhaust tip. More so on the left than right side..

My 2013 X5 35i is also the same black crap on my exhaust tip and the bumper trim... more so on the left one than the right. This was the case since I first brought the X5 home on April 24th 2012..
I have not experienced any lag or delayed throttle response... except when driving over uneven roads where the traction control warning light briefly comes on... So my question is am I talking about the same thing as the OP is experiencing on his X5M?

Thanks.

After hand washing my white X5M yesterday, I noticed the same thing you guys are mentioning in these posts. My driver side (Left side) exhaust bumper area is much darker than the passenger side. This is the first time ive noticed it since I got it in April. I feel a slight hesitation when I mash the pedal from a stand still. This could be my biased butt dyno. How long till it throws a CEL?

My car never throw a CEL, but I really felt a performance decrease. I mean you just don't feel the turbo charge surge pull anymore.

Sorry, my butt dyno is very sensitive.

Lol same here, some times the car just felt slow, I thought maybe my head is playing tricks with me.

hi jim. Did you ever figure what the issue was? Mine is throwing the same exact codes. It is driving nuts.
