Is this service still covered if out of factory warranty or would I have to pay out of pocket?

I have a 2011 X6 50i with no factory warranty left.

Mine is out of warranty. I called the local dealer and they verified that this recall existed for my vehicle and I scheduled a time to drop it off.

It is covered regardless of mileage or warranty status.

oh ok good! What exactly should I say when I call?
I just don’t want them to give me the runaround if I call the “service” by the wrong name and they don’t know what im talking about.

Should I just tell them I want to the schedule the customer care package for the X6 50i service campaign?

Just tel them the N63 campaign. If they don't know what that is, your dealer has a serious issue.

Not covered. The battery is only covered under the original warranty/maintenance plan. CPO does not cover the battery and even the extended maintenance does not cover the battery. So, as I previously stated, you do not fall within the criteria for a battery replacement under the SIB.

Dude, I don't know where you're getting your information from, but the campaign covers all the noted items whether or not the N63 powered vehicle is under warranty or not...CPO, original, etc. This includes the battery.

They tested my battery and it checked-out fine. I could show you the paperwork if you'd like to see it.

Just got mine back from Bel Air BMW (Maryland). It went in Monday 1/26 and received all the parts. My service report looks like the one up the page. Did not need timing chain and I had just received a new battery under warranty in November.

Car was actually ready Monday 2/2 except that they couldn't code the module that operates the power tailgate so they ordered one in. That one didn't work either and it turned out BMW had sent them the wrong program. Car feels smoother although that's probably placebo. Hoping the mpgs get a little better. I get between 12 and 13.

Bel Air BMW did a bang-up job as usual. The service dept is a class act and always has been in the 8 years I have been going there.

No it doesn't. The battery is only replaced on qualified vehicles and a separate battery bulletin was released in January which replaces the previous battery campaign released in December.

INFORMATION

This bulletin outlines a customer satisfaction measure that has been designed exclusively for the BMW vehicles listed above. It involves the replacement of the 12-volt battery as a preventive maintenance measure.

This 12-volt battery replacement measure is:

Effective with repairs dated on or after January 1, 2015.

Applicable to vehicles that are still covered by the BMW Maintenance Program. This program is valid for 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

If the battery was replaced previously within the last 12 months, then the battery replacement outlined below (combined with performing the engine oil service) is not necessary.

Please check the warranty claim history for the specific vehicle in the DCSnet Warranty Vehicle Inquiry to confirm if a battery was replaced in the previous 12 months.

Vehicles with an N63 Engine

Vehicles with N63 engines require additional cooling capacity, and the activation of the various cooling system components places additional demands on the battery.

Several enhancements have been made to the power management system on such vehicles. However, in a quest to ensure total customer satisfaction, please replace the 12-volt battery on a preventive maintenance basis at every engine oil service (engine oil service counter # 1, # 2, # 3, etc.), unless the battery was replaced within the last 12 months.

Note: The Key Reader/ISPA Light application will not show a “combined” battery replacement with engine oil service counter # 1 and # 3. Disregard this and replace the battery while performing the engine oil service.

Vehicles with an N55, N57, N63T, S63, or N74 Engine

1 week down. All I know is they are replacing the following: fuel injectors, the mass air flow sensor, and the brake vacuum pump. Everything else tested fine. My vehicle ran great so hoping that stays the same.

Said BMW has a big parts back up and it might be another 1.5-2 weeks. I have a 535i loaner that is loaded out. It's nice but really makes me appreciate what I have and I want it back! haha

12/2010 build w/ 26k miles. Mine was in for a seat repair and they noticed oil leaking from the crank case. Sounds like they're tying this into the recall somehow even though mine is an S63.

I got a 335i as a loaner and it feels like I'm driving around in a golf cart after being in an X5. Not too bad though for zipping around town.

Thanks. Still does not detail how that supersedes Bulletin B001314, which clearly states all vehicles, under warranty or not, are covered for the items in said bulletin, including the battery.

If there is more to that information than what you copied and pasted, please enlighten us.

Search for it, it is out there. You want information, take some initiative.

Just to show you that all vehicles are not covered to get a battery replacement.
1) Notice the January 1st, 2015 statement
2) It has been confirmed by BMW NA

My X5 is still under the 4 yr/50K warranty but I'm still curious about this as the original bulletin reads as below. This would seem to contradict the phone call described in your linked post?

From the original bulletin B001314 -
"Dealership instructions include checking the timing chain for stretching and replacing it if necessary, replacing the fuel injectors, mass air flow sensors, crankcase vent lines, battery, engine vacuum pump and low pressure fuel sensor.

The sweeping recall also extended to vehicles that had gone out of warranty, no matter how many miles were accumulated on the vehicle.

I didn't need to take any, I already had the service done!

if you'd just linked the whole thing, it would have cleared the matter up for everyone else here who was looking for help. For a new guy, you're kind of a dick, aren't ya?

When you resort to name calling, you are just a immature and have no value to add.

The battery is a wear item and is covered under the maintenance plan. The majority of the other parts listed are not considered a wear item like battery.

Apologize for the name calling - venting a little for making me work so hard to get to the simple answer that the electronics service bulletin superseded the original N63 bulletin. A very simple thing to have either typed out or just copied and pasted from your other sources man!

Since you're new here, it came off as either uninformed or condescending, FYI.
