A history of our X5s over the years...

We've had four X5s in my family to date, and I thought it would be fun to show some pictures of them all. Some are when they were clean, others dirty, some when they were new, others when they were haggard after years of being used. Enjoy!

First one was an '08 Black Sapphire Metallic M Sport 30d. Ths is the day she was delivered from the dealership in downtown London.

Somewhere in Austria.

Pushing her on the autobahn in Germany.

Full winter mode, including winter wheels and tires.

On the way to Switzerland.

After the black one reached 108K miles, an '12 Deep Sea Blue Metallic 40d was ordered...

Day of delivery.

Full winter mode.

Took is skiing in Austria.

No spacers needed!

And then there was the '11 M Sport 35i...

Together with my '04 3/4 Dodge 2500 (Cummins) I sold last year...

All my friends have black cars.

Next to my friend's X6M.

Great pics - thanks for posting.

Are all X5's, incuding these models never offered in the U.S. (30d & 40d), built in S.C.?

Very nice.

How is it, coming from a strong 40 diesel, to drive the 35i?

The 35i (302 hp, 300 lb ft) is definitely a step down from the 40d (302 hp, 442 lb ft)!

Why? The biggest "plus" is the 8-speed tranny the 40d comes with. For the rest, they are the same engines, just with different tunes and turbos. The 40d supposedly has slightly better MPGs, a bit more torque and a bit more HP.

The difference between the 30d and the 40d will be noticeable. But between the 35d and the 40d? In real world applications, probably not really worth "wanting".

The 2014 has 381 hp and 546 lb ft of torque! That is almost as much torque has my Cummins Dodge had. Crazy.

Exactly. 8 speed would be nice for highway. I love my 35d and I guess the 40d gets its better milage from the 8 speed.

So are all those x5's your dads old cars or did u live in the uk before?

I did live in the UK before (amongst other European countries, didn't move to the US until a few years ago), however, all the above X5s are my dads apart from the white one. His new '14 X5 has Dutch plates, by the way

I just thought about something: I should have swapped my '11 non-LED corona lights for the Deep Sea Blue '12 LED corona headlights before it was sold. Ughhhhhhh...

We never keep the X5s on all-season tires. When we hit fall or winter and the temperature starts dropping, we'll swap the summer wheels out for winters. The Dunlops are excellent winter performance tires. In some countries, such as Germany, winter tyres are mandatory by law. Since most Europeans need to go through Germany in order to go skiing, we are forced to run winter tyres regardless. The Dunlops are extremely comfortable.
