Diesel quality issue after relocation!

Hi all! Just relocated from London and brought over our 40d to Asia. After only 200 miles, the car was coughing up white smoke really bad! The problem stops after a while but reoccurs after every 50 miles or so! We mostly do short urban drives. Quite embarassing driving around with a smoke screen. As a typical end user, I was not aware of the diffrent diesel grades esp Euro IV - Euro V in Europe. Now I am stuck with Euro II comparable where I am!! I understand that it has to do with the diesel particulate filter. Will the diesel fuel issue have a long term effect on my car??

Please advise. Just starting to realise why the local BMW dealer here only sells X6 with petrol engines!

If I was you I would try to look if there is any neighboring countries that use grade 4 diesel and export it and get a petrol one.

Or try to find a refueling station with better diesel, maybe some companies are better than others.

Sorry to hear that, for example here in Costa Rica the BMW dealer does not import the 35d and will never import the 40d due to our low quality diesel, they only import the 30d which has no issues with poor diesels, I owned a 30d for 36 months without any trouble.
The problem is about the microparticular filter like the one used on all 35d and 40d engines, these filters will not accept bad diesels, here in Costa Rica a 40d will not start at all.......
Try to find a Diesel aditive like Diesel Kleen for example, maybe it will help, I think you are in trouble, sorry to say this.....

Hi, I am Kin. Is it necessary to retune the engine of X6 30d so that it can take the euro 2 diesel?? Does the X6 30d got diesel particulate filter??

Hi I am Kin. How is your X6 40d after removing the diesel particulate filter? Is everything OK? I wish to bring an UK BMW X6 30d back to Malaysia but I am doubt with the diesel quality in Malaysia.

Thanks for the feedback. I have not done any adjustments to the car yet. Its still running with the occasional white smoke every +/- 200kms but when this happens, I quickly rev up to the nearest dual carriageway at 130km/h for 5 mins. Problem solved. I still need to send the car to the local dealership to endorse the international warranty and will seek advise then. Just found out that my colleagues imported Mercedes diesel also suffers from the occasional white exhaust fumes!

However, the link below does not indicate that the BMW X6 is currently fitted with the DPF (but the info could be outdated?)

Malaysia would probably introduce 4M (euro 4 equivalent) by 2015 or hopefully earlier but given the opportunity, I'll stick with a petrol engine this time!

I had the same problem. Imported a 35d and having smoke screen sometimes...and its massive! But it lasts only for about 30 seconds or so.

I'm already filling up with the best Shell diesel not the National Pertamina and it still smokes. However it doesn't affect the running or consumption at all when smoking.

Even if I whack the crap out of it during high speed long distance its still the same after coming back to city driving.

It s clear that you have a problem with the low quality of the fuell. Try to sell it or change it with a petrol model because in time u'll have problems with the engine: injectors, spark-plugs and so on
U have to take into account that the engine from 40d is one of the most advanced in BMW range and it needs good fuell for sustaining the high performances

Perhaps you should send your X6 to BMW service center for retuning so that it can take euro 2 diesel. Hope your problem can be solved. It's very hard to get an used X6 petrol in UK here that's why I think I will bring an UK X6 diesel back to Malaysia next year. If your problem can be solved after retuning then I will proceed with my plan to bring an UK X6 diesel back to Malaysia hope to hear from you soon. By the way, my plan is to bring diesel X6 30d back to malaysia. If you happen to meet the BMW specialist, please help me to ask him/her whether the X6 30d can be retuned to take euro 2 diesel. Thank you bro!!!

What about the X6 30d?? Can this engine take euro2 diesel?

I think you should send your X6 to BMW service center for retuning. Are you using euro 2 diesel?? Are you at indonesia?

Are you using euro 2 diesel for your X6 30d? Is it an UK spec X6 30d??

U can t use euro 2 diesel for an UK spec X6 30d because it is euro 5 too.
U should buy one from the local dealer.
