That civic type R is a serious machine when paired up to a small tight track.... ugly as sin but you got to respect it for what it is. I'd love one for AutoX events.

More reason to get a 328, at least you won't look as embarrassed when getting beat by a Civic.

If he wasn't sliding corners he would have beat that time IMO. Either way, the CTR is a great little ride as well

wow that is a quick civic.

He hung the tail out a lot on the M3 lap Im sure that probably cost him the 2 tenths or more

With 306 HP and a close ratio transmission it's still going to be unbelievable on a more open track. Maybe not definitively faster than the M3, but close enough to make the average M3 driver sweat. On such a tight track, that much power doesn't really do FWD any favors either.

A lot of people say things can be faster without sliding - but sometimes the lap with a bit of sideways sliding is the fastest lap.

It all depends on how much speed you can carry before it slides and how much speed after the corner is achieved with a slide. A strategic slide can be a good way to change direction quickly without losing RPM/speed. A quick sideways flick is not the same as a full on tire burning drift.

The Civic Type R is more tuned for track than the M3. The M3 is a all purpose car - the Type R is designed to set lap times. Let's see the comparison when they have a more hardcore M3 GTS.

I definitely agree with that statment. He did have one pretty bad slide at near the end of the lap that definitely didn't help.

I want to see Randy Pobst or the stig do laps in this car and see what the times are compared to the M3

A bit of slide can quite often make it faster, just won't do it for very long. Although a powerslide is never faster.

Very true. M3 would have been faster if not for that shitty turn.. Still the Type-R Civic is no joke. Doubt it will be sold in the US though.

Yeah, and the M3 is just a hopped up 3 series family car.

It would still be interesting to see a megane RS trophy-R also in this test.

It's lower on power but on the nordschleife (which has long stretches) it's only 4 seconds down, so maybe it has the edge on this very short circuit.

M3/4 is featherweight compared to its competitors: C63, ATS-V, RC F, RS5

The 275 Trophy LE was 1.1 seconds behind the CTR (from their previous video), not sure the alterations on the Trophy-R would be able to make that up on a 45second lap. It would be interesting to see though.
