No , I am right .
Golf TDI stands in Europe for oustanding reliability and for decades ,that's why we see them all over on our roads .
So you should really not be worried about the Golf .
Of course your X5D is also a perfect work horse .
Hope you and your family are fine too...

I DD my 128i and GTi MKIV and I love driving both of them. There were a few times I drove my father's X3 and my mom's rav4 and I couldn't wait to drive my cars again.
I drive ~50 miles a day and would go crazy driving a car I didn't love to drive.
With that said, get a GTi.

I have 2000 Civic that I'm pretty sure I could drive through a wall and it would still run. You really can't go wrong with some of the older Hondas / Toyotas, cheap and they will run forever.

TBH your 335 sounds like a pain in the arse more than something enjoyable, but each to his own.

As for a DD, the answer is Nissan Maxima. Done, go shop.

I've always thought that a VW Golf GTI or something similar would be a good DD, and you could probably find a good used one cheap or even a new one depending on your budget.

N54 guy here, can confirm. Between the tears for my own car, I chuckle at Merc owners almost daily. It doesn't help how ridiculous they are to work on either.

I'm starting to think they're so cheap because of all the money you'll dump into repairs.

Mine specifically is an 02, and it's been fantastic (Just under 200k on the Odo and no large issues). I know the newer model years haven't been quite as good of build quality, but the motors are still reliable and very efficient.
