Unhappy X6 ///M acceleration feeling ?

I've just bought last week a BMW X6M production 11.2011, full options + some Hamann extras.

I'm puzzled...
I own also a Jaguar XKR (510 PS) and a Land Rover SC (510 PS)...

The thing is that in Jaguar and even LR the acceleration is much more brutal for the neck and by comparison X6 seems underpowered until you put the pedal to the metal.

Is there a problem with my car?

Not necessarily. I can't speak for the X6M, until mine get here Monday, but I've felt this issue on other cars. I used to drive a 911 Turbo S and thought the same thing about it. Seemed heavy and slow until you gunned it. We have a Range Rover and a Denali, both with the same weight and similar horsepower. The Range Rover feels like a rocket ship. I've always figured it had something to do with gearing the way it feels like it takes off so much faster. With that said, I actually prefer the feeling of driving around a vehicle that doesn't drive like a race car, but can. I don't like the way the Range Rover jerks everything around. Even my dogs can notice a difference. Hopefully my X6M drives like yours. I love knowing the power is there when I want it, and don't have to be so careful with the throttle.

A small rwd car will feel faster than a big suv, even though the x6m Is just as fast almost.

The thing is that X6 m has 2380 Kg and RR is 2710 Kg, but the great hare RR seems sportier.
Same "fuel economy"...

This sight is also claiming the Range Rover gets 27.2 mpg on the highway. The only way that happens is if the X6 M is towing it.

the truck will feel alot more refined (less "jerky" and aggressive shifting) when ur in normal mode. the M mode is adaptive and will do so according to ur driving habits. get a tune and slap er in m sport mode, and i will be very suprised if u think its even in the same ballpark as ur rover.

Slap some catless Akra Downpipes and Akra Evo exhaust and the ESS catless tune and your passengers will complain of whiplash!

My wife says "tell me before you start driving aggressively"...

The sound is not a problem, I have Hamann exhaust.
More "sound" would be disturbing in the cabin.

I don't think that the exhaust only will make the car more responsive

About the reported official fuel economy.... it's a bad joke

Well to be honnest i have the same feeling
Yesterday i drove a vw touareg 4.2 l diesel man that car feels twice as fast as a 550d or a x6m although on paper it does 0-62 in 5,9 sec so it should have nothing to do with bmw power. If it weren't so ugly i would go for that one. i think it has something to do with the software: bmw is filing off all the sharp edges of their cars even the m products. I think it is the software that makes that the power just doesn't kick in as wild any more so maybe a tune could do wonders

I had a ML 420 CDI and it has a ton of turbo lag, not funny!
It will break your neck from 80-120 Km/h, after that it's dead...

But... my dad has a X3 SD (286 PS) biturbo and maaaannn it seems much faster at normal speed.

Diesel engines will have a lot more torque than petrol engines, I had a X630d at the same time my wife had an Audi Q7 3.0Tdi, both cars have great torque, the BMW felt slower because of the variable geometry turbo which makes the car feel like a petrol engine with little lag, the Q7 has a regular turbo that explodes to full power in a second, but the joy of acceleration does not last long, I will never trade the feeling of the variable geometry turbo against a regular turbo

It is not a merc but a vw touareg 4.2 tdi but it must be subjective feeling because on paper bmw is faster
I drive a ford super snake 750 hp and a ford gt 680 hp they both have exactly the same 5,4 l engine only is the supercharger of the super snake larger. The gt feels twice as fast as the super snake don't know why. It is much lower and weigths 300 pounds less which should make up for the power gap but can not justifie the subjective feeling! Sensation of speed and acceleration is very complex. Same here why feels one car faster than the other is sometimes very hard to figure out. Till present i have never driven any car that feels as fast as the gt only a pitty it only takes 2 persons and no luggage

The M button just gives you a custom setting that you designed previously, also it remaps the gas pedal, so when you push it, it accelerates much faster which makes you feel the car has more power, but as far as I know the hp's are always the same

You don't think changing the exhaust will make the truck more responsive?

You serious or just uninformed?

The biggest restriction to the turbos and torque IS the catted Downpipes

The only serious mod do to besides a
Turbo swap is to get rid of the cats
and get a larger diameter Downpipe with X pipe exhaust.

Getting rid of the cats has made a
"neck" breaking improvement to the truck. If you want the "brutal for the neck" as your opening post this is for you.

And it's as quiet as stock under normal driving conditions or can induce involuntary urination with crowds on the street under wide open throttle.

Disappointed to hear "more sound in the cabin" would be annoying to you. Please turn your mancard in! Lol just kidding
