Where do you keep your sunglasses?

Just wanted to know where you guys keep your shades ! And please dont tell me in the armrest console !
I remember reading a great DIY thread back in E90post about retrofitting sunglass holders in place of the ashtray and lighter for my E92 which I did myself, with vanity lights and all, and it turned out fantastic!

I wanted to know if any such option is available for our X5's...

I just have a nice soft cloth and I lined the ashtray area with it. My sunglasses fit nicely there.

I keep mine (open) tucked between the driver's visor and the headliner, with the lenses facing me. It's not the best, but it does the job.

I keep considering this, but am not sure it's deep enough:

I tried placing my shades in the ashtray area after taking out the removal part, but the sliding lid would not close...http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/images/smilies/iono.gif

I wouldn't want to replace the grab handle with a sunglasses case either...
contrary to what the ad says, I believe the grab handle is more useful there, and it seems it would be quite awkward putting in and taking out sunglasses from that area...

Thanks for the replies

After looking at and trying several things, I broke down and bought one of those $9 visor clips. Since i'm tall I keep it on the passenger side and just reach over and grab it when I need them. Having them on the driver's side was distracting.

^ same here, keep mine in the case at the very front section of the door pocket

I do fully admit that a car of this caliber doesn't have an integrated sunglasses storage solution while every Japanese car I owned from the early 2000s have something in place

I got 2 of these on each of our 4 cars.
Not intrusive when glasses are not mounted - keeps the car clean looking (except when sunglass is mounted).

The little spot where the ash tray is, with the cover partially closed to cover the cigarette lighter, holds my glasses or shades just fine.

The problem comes down to when my wife and I have our respective eye wear, then the cup holder is used next.

the proper solution is one of these, they have it on euro spec cars, however I have no idea if this will fit on our X5s properly or not

Does not seem very ergonomic, almost an afterthought...

On the 3-series, there is a sunglass holder that swaps out the ash tray...we don't have it for the x5?

sburke had already pointed out the grab handle replacement ... I do not want to remove the grab handle as I said before, as I occasionally like to grab it!

RVA had mentioned the visor clip route, but I don't like the idea of the visor smacking against the inside of my windscreen! and I agree that it would probably be distracting as well and clutter up the driver area

Flying Ace, if you look at my original post u will c that I did the sunglasses holder retrofit in place of the ashtray in my E92, with vanity lighting and all, and it turned out absolutely fantastic! and I was wondering if there is an option to replace this ashtray and lighter ( I do not and never will smoke) in a similar fashion in our X5's ...

So once again, door pocket it is for now

Thanks to all for the replies.
