X5 Moanin' n Groanin'

Hi All,
New to this Board, and it certainly looks like a great resource!
I have an '11 X5 50, and I love it! Just did the Dinan Stage II yesterday. One thing is kind of buggin’, though. Between about 1500 and 2000 rpms, when everything is relatively quiet, I am hearing a sort of groaning noise coming out of the engine, particularly when the engine is warmed up a bit. It follows the rpms in pitch. Happens whether I am moving or stationary. After 2000 I can't really hear it any more, but I am not sure if the noise disappears, or other increased engine noise masks it. I took it to my dealer, and they definitely heard it as well. So, we listened to another '11 they have on the lot, and sure enough--there it was. We then listened to a brand new '13, and sure enough--there it was, but not as loud (seems like the noise may increase with mileage, at least initially). Because it was so clearly audible, they were amazed that no one had every reported this before, and that they themselves had never noticed it before. They recorded it, and sent it to some regional or national engineers, who said it is "normal" and "just the way this engine sounds". Fine, if this is true, although it is not an attractive sound (almost like a tach cable rubbing on the housing in a vintage car). Anyone else ever notice this?
Thanks,
Copa

BTW: I think that it may be the oil pump, and the dealer is willing to give that a look. Anyone suffered a noisy oil pump?

Yes, warmed up. In fact, the noise was only noticeable on the others when they were warm. And the new X5 was hardly noticeable even then, but the noise was there.

String

Here is a helpful string that came up via Jerich0's Google search suggestion above. Thanks Jerich0.

Re the noise heard in a '13, let me clarify: We listened outside, and I was personally unsure about whether I was hearing it or not. The dealer folks took it inside, and then told me that they heard it, but a more quiet version. Maybe they were just playing the "they all do that/it's normal" game. So far, they are being helpful. I am taking the X5 in a week from today, and taking a loaner. Based on what I am reading, I intend to start working with the dealer to get the oil pump scenario teed up in advance, to the extent possible. I do not want to wait weeks for parts to come from Germany!
