I've had some problems with the readings of oil level sensor in my 50i, but recently at around 8000 miles it was persistent in asking for 1 quart of oil. The iDrive display was specific in the amount required--I added it and all seems to be well now. I did think it was strange. I also think that the dealer may have topped it off at 4-5k miles when I went in for a different service.

Two gallons, seriously? I have added 1/2 litre to my M3 in 5000kms.

If you put two gallons in something is definitely wrong with your sensor. Contrary to popular conception it is better to have your crankcase a little low as opposed to overfilled, which is most certainly the case if you put in two gallons.
Are you sure it wasn't two quarts? |

If you have been driving it hard that might not be a big deal but I would keep an eye on it. I really like the visual oil thing but hate not having a dipstick to check, especially since when they first did this on the 7 series there were senor issues. I drive really hard, in first 7k miles put in two quarts (at different times) since then nothing, now I'm at 22k. |

I think 2 quarts are consider alot. Maybe op is driving it pretty hard that it need 2 quarts. I just had mine added recently at the dealer when it hit around 9000 miles. Added 1 quart and the sensors show it full.
