Connected Drive subscription?

I've bought an 11.2011 BMW X6m from Germany.
It's Full ptions.

In Germany I could see weather etc on the navigation map, but after Germany... nothing.

I've read that I need a subscription, but the page is German only.

Also, I cannot find BMW Remote in my country App Store for iPhone...

What is the deal with this Connected drive?

I believe You need to subscribe to BMW Assist - $199/yr.

Here is link...

I don't subscribe, but am interested if it's worth it.

I have an X6 xDrive50i on order and might go for it.

Coolest option I saw is that you can send directions to your car from Google maps on your computer. Supposedly when you start car it's available and your good to go. Otherwise, inputting via iDrive can be tedious.

x6Hawkeye -- You shouldn't need the $199/yr BMW Assist "Convenience Plan" in order to send navigation destinations to your new car. I have the free "Safety Plan" and can do it just fine, after linking the BMW Assist account to my Google Maps account.

@BigBobDeuce - I tried that when I first picked up our 2011 --- perhaps I gave up to quickly, thanks a lot - that's the main reason I'd pay for the other service!

To clarify

BMW Assist comes standard with all BMWs for 4 years (at least here in the States). It includes
*Automatic Collision Notification
*Emergency Request (SOS)
*Enhanced Roadside Assistance
*Myinfo
*Stolen Vehicle Recovery
*Remote Door Unlock
*TeleService
*Customer Relations.

For an additional $199 however, you can enroll in the BMW Assist Convenience Plan which gives you
*BMW Online (access to Google Maps to quickly find desired business with just a key word)
*Directions to a street address or point of interest**
*Traffic around your car or along your route**
*Weather in your area or at your destination**
*Concierge via Concierge Button**
*Critical Calling: 4 operator-assisted calls, up to 5 minutes each.**

** All of these are via the SOS button (which seems kind of silly)

Note that you do NOT need the Convenience Plan to use Google maps from your computer to send addresses to your car. So for instance, today, I looked up where I needed to go via maps.google.com on my computer, then sent that address to my car. Once I remembered how to get it (go to the Messages area under connected drive) I was able to select it from my car and have the address ready for NAV with no fuss.

Doug, is the address you sent the directions to simply the one you used to sign into BMW Assist?

Never mind. I just saw the option to select where the map goes to. I selected Car and it sent it to the ride. When i get home, I'll check for the message. Cool feature.
