Anyone upgraded to Bavsound?
Been driving my daughters 2012 X5, and its audio system sucks very badly compared to my M2 and my wifes X6M. Was looking online, and looks like a company called Bavsound offers a complete plug and play package - including new speakers, new subs and a new amp. Looking for feedback from people that did the upgrade.

overpriced speakers, that need much more power (new amps) to really take advantage of. I replaced all my doors and center channel speakers. For the price, I'm not impressed at all.
However, the tweeters alone, made a very positive difference with nothing else changing. I'm sure a simple sub would do the same. That said, it's all about goals and available budget. The installation of the speakers is easy, and fast for a seasoned person. If an amp fits for you, it's darn near plug-n-play. Why not? You really need a small 8" or even 10" sub. Be it a self powered one, or not. It helps round out the overall sound. Like I said, I was content with their tweeter alone. The factory mids are decent and could use some more power if anything. |

I'm also curious about their amp. My truck has the base audio, so the speakers are powered by the head unit. If I upgrade to the BavSound amp, do I need to run new speaker wires?
Also thought about buying Top HiFi speakers and amp off of eBay and retrofitting into my ride. How is the sound quality of the factory Top HiFi, would it be worth the trouble of running new wires, splitting the MOST BUS, coding for Top HiFi, and buying new pillar panels for added speakers, etc? |

I have the Bavsound subwoofers in my X5M. Mostly b/c I had them in my F10 (sold) and found out from Bavsound they are the same PN that fit my E70 X5M w/Individual Sound. I've used Bavsound on previous BMWs as well as custom setups. It's a clean install and depending on your starting point a definite upgrade over most stock systems...IMO the price point is high and makes the return on investment decision hard and understandable that many pass.
My Individual System with Bavsound subs is a slight improvement. No where near when I was running a single JL 10" on a D class amp on my E46M3. But I really like the improved sound with the Bavsound subs, but have been considering an 8" like mitch808 recommends.

I just realized that I have premium system, and bavsound actually does not sell an amp for my car, only speakers and subs. I ordered the subs and going to give them a try.

Just got finished installing the subs. Here's the good, the bad and the ugly.
First, I want to say it is nice of Bavsound to provide an installation kit. All the required tools were included and made the install very simple - no need to search through my toolbox. The improvement in sound quality is tremendous. I was a bit worried at first - when I removed the stock subs and compared them to the Bavsound, the stock ones are substantially heavier, even despite that Bavsound subs have a metal grille. Despite the weight, they sound at least twice as good as the stock, and I'm very happy with the improvement in sound. However, they are not as plug and play as I expected them to be. The stock subs are contained within a plastic enclosure that mounts underneath the seat, and the plastic grille mounts to the enclosure. When you install the Bavsound sub into the enclosure, the top portion of the enclosure does not fit, so you can't mount the grille, and sub is exposed underneath the seat. This is what it looks like right now. I am thinking about maybe even just gluing the grille to the carpet. |

Did you contact bavsound and tell them that you can't fit the factory grill on the top of the enclosure?
I can't imagine they didn't think of this with the price of their kits. I was thinking of doing their speaker upgrade. The tweeters in my x5 with hifi sound terrible.

Hmm, mine was plug and play...but then again I installed an F10 sub set into my E70 (After selling my F10, Bavsound informed me they fit my E70). Let us know what they say...

since you have premium audio, how much better does the individual audio sound in the X6M?

Not even a comparison, the bowers and wilkins system actually feels premium. Even in my M2 the HK system is substantially better, but some of that might be contributed that the speakers in the X5 are 7 years old, and are simply losing performance.

Exchanging emails with Bavsound now, they are recommending removing the metal grille from their speaker, but I tried that, and with that I can force the enclosure to fit, but it touch the speaker surface and pushes it down.
I'll probably just leave it as is, it should be fine. |

I am a bit annoyed, I posted a 4 star review on Bavsounds site highlighting the problem and the review does not show up. Looks like they are censoring anything that isn't 5 star?

Maybe it takes a little time to show up?
I know on some websites Ive left reviews on, it seems like the company will verify the review before posting it just to make sure people are posting irrelevant crap. Maybe thats the case here? |

Ordered their speakers as well, should be arriving any day now. A bit paranoid about doing the install myself, but I'll update the thread once I finish with my impressions.

I just installed last month and the covers fit perfectly. You need to place the cover on before you screw in the speaker. The screws go through the cover and speaker at the same time.

Sorry, but you might not have followed the instructions correctly. You need to remove the entire plastic enclosure from beneath each seat, then install the sub and mount the cover. THEN you reinstall the entire enclosure. It is really quite simple. The sub fits perfectly as BAVsound states.
