The m50d was officially released in the UK on the 16th June and because there is only a couple in Australia I think the official release here is delayed until they have stock in the showrooms. Even the Australian BMW website has not much on it about the M50d, last time I looked it was not in the X5 configurator either. I think the problem is its cost here, by the time you option it up its close to double a standard/basic X5 30d, but then again the X5M works out to be about $8k more with the same options. I suppose a M-sport 40d with the same options would only be about $12k cheaper at the end of the day. The beauty about the M50d is the adaptive Drive, I have always had it on all the X5 e70 diesels but they dropped it from the diesel lineup in 2010, so I held onto my 2009 35d M-Sport until it came available again although only on the M50d, never wanted the v8 version which you could still order with the adaptive drive. I think the M50d will be fairly rare X5 here, it will be by order only to a certain extent and they will not be a big seller like the X5M is here, you won't see to many sitting on a showroom floor. I think the dealer here has one coming in Sept and that I think may aready be sold. M50d is only badged on the rear, not on the sides of the front doors just like the X5M, and has nearly the same big air intakes and also no foglights the same as the X5M. If you get a M50d make sure you get the adaptive drive option, the other options are for what you prefer but AD is a must. PS. I have done a photo shoot, it will take me a couple days to edit before I upload.
