2012 X5 3.5 vs 5.0

Trading my M3 in on a family mover and I'm torn between the V6 or V8 options. For those of you that have looked and purchased, do you have any advice? I love the feel of the 5.0, especially coming from an M3, but it is worth the extra $$$$. Thanks!!!!

I just purchased a 2012 X5 50i. I drove all three versions and enjoyed the ride and power of the 50i. Coming from an M3, I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the power and handling of the 50i.

Some people claim the the 35i handles a little better; but, I think only Sebastian Vettel or Lewis Hamilton would notice.

I also voted for the 5.0, not becasue I have one but If you want to maintain a real performance level, get the 5.0i, not that the 3.5i is a slouch in any respect.

But it does boil down to budget and how important performance, goodies, fuel economy, and cost are to you.

PS: the 35i is an I6, not a V6.

Not even close. I had a 35i and felt it was under powered. I now drive a 50i.

Would take 50i, but not sure what kind packages you going to get for the 50i, a fully load 50i is going around $88000. Just another $10000 you can get load X5M ( about $200 extra if you finance ).

Trade in my 50i for X5M, love it so far =)

Not yet, Been really busy with work cause going out country for month vacation. I will post couple pictures after I get home.

About the difference, I will say first the body style, M much agressive better looking than with or without m package. The power, m is faster quicker respond than my x50i. my x50i somehow has turbo lag delay. When I drive my X5m It feel more like sport car than SUV. Ohh the brake, few members here has the issues when they try apply the brake and rolling, mine does have that problem too. But not on The X5M.
For ppl who getting their X5 be sure get M package. I think its same on the X5M, the suspension, the steering wheel, it's so much better than non m package X5.

I know X5M just about less a second faster than X5 50i, I'm not a race guy but when I get on my X5M. My whole body is burning, I want go fast!!!!

BMW X5 - 3.5 vs 5.0

I used to own 2008 X5 3.0i and now I have 2012 X5 5.0i

there is simply no comparison - 5.0i actually allows you to enjoy BMW's drivability while 3.0i feels like a truck

I'd say that 5.0i is an excellent vehicle, however if you can't afford it I'd go with Mercedes ML350 instead of BMW X5 3.5i as you'd get more comfort this way while getting similar performance

Good news is that the residual on 5.0i model is (or at least used to be in November 2012) 5 percentage points lower on 36 month lease than 3.5i, making 5.0i somewhat affordable

First of all, it's 35i, not 3.5 (which assumes engine size).
Second of all, similar performance? Look below!

Engine: 3.0-liter inline turbocharged six-cylinder
Horsepower & Torque: 300 hp/300 lb-ft
Transmission: AWD eight-speed automatic
Fuel Economy: 16/23

Base MSRP: $46,300

http://zautos.com/car-review-2011-mercedes-benz-ml350/

Gas is the defining factor. I heard the 5.0i is a guzzler - so I went with 3.5i

Definitely a gas guzzler (13/14 around town driven with "spirit" and 20/22 freeway)...if the cash isn't an issue though I would go with the 50...honestly though, I love driving it every bit as much as my m3 (I know that's probably blasphemy). The only thing I would change is the amount of body roll but the thing is a tank so that's to be somewhat expected outside of the M.

I would go Diesel over 35i. The 50 i is in another class of power but gas guzzler too.
My buddy has the 50i, my wife the diesel. Reprogrammed the ECU on the diesel for 30-40 more HP and 50 more torque. Cant really get that with the 35i
20 way comfort seats most comfortable seat I have ever tried. should have gotten heads up display. Great with the nav.
Just my 2cents worth
Good luck

No offense by hijacking thread.

You can get a NEW X5M, stickered at $99,075 for $83K plus TTL.

Only catch=new, but 1-year old model.
