Wouldn't even hesitate, plan on keeping it in the family a long time.

Had I seen this before I got mine, I'd call you nuts...

However, after having mine for over a year and spending about $4K to keep it running (injectors, various vacuum hoses, fuel pressure sensors, etc...) and looking at another $5K in the near future (I think one of my turbos is on it's way out, AC compressor is making noise too, etc...), I can see where you're coming from. Mine has 57K miles on the clock right now...

To the OP, if you must have an X5 M, I'd recommend you spend $35K on the vehicle and keep the other $10K for god knows what...or have one hell of a warranty...because with these things, you never know...

Exactly... I think a lot of people knock the Jeep because its a "jeep" when they have actually really stepped up their game. They're quick, reliable and cheap to maintain and mod. They also have an awesome audio system with the HK upgrade and have some really nice technology features.

$1500 for a flash, $1500 for a carbon lip, $1000 for a rear diffuser, $1500 for downpipes, etc. All ridiculous prices.

Sadly they aren't ridiculous prices if people continue to pay those costs. I think the one thing you have to remember is that the X5m has a $100k MSRP vs the Jeep SRT8 at $65k. That's a big difference and the buyer demographics are surely to be different as well.

This.

It's like anything else with these damn cars. Call any service (window tint/car wrap/tire shop/etc)

"What kind of car is it?"

"BMW X5"

"Ok it's $xxx, can I have vin?

"WBU1234567"

"Oh Buddie, it's an X5M, it's actually gonna cost $xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"

For the same damn size car/window/tire/whatever.

But, the premium is worth it. Jeremy described it best when he said after the test drive "get your accountant to bring out a crayon and write a check for $100K". This car is made for grown up 5 year olds.

Valid points from all of you guys. This is my fourth BMW, third ///M. I knew what I was getting myself into regarding OE replacement parts and aftermarket upgrade parts, including that ///M tax.

Not sure what OPs current or past garage is/was like so just wanted to make sure he understands that everything about these cars costs more...

You gotta pay to play, I suppose...

I am curious how that SRT Hellcat/Trackhawk will stack up once it's released in a year or so...I imagine it will be mid to high $80Ks...kinda hard to ignore...

Injectors are covered and I highly doubt your turbos are going, many people have well over 100k on these cars

Yeah, the injectors are covered now, but they weren't when I did them. So regardless if they're covered or not, I'm shit out of luck and money.

As far as the turbo goes, I'll have to upload the video. It has a strange wobble sound coming from the passenger (left) bank, which is being transferred through the intake.

You can hear it on one side and not the other...just preparing for the worst.

In case the turbo is going out, Pure Turbos will replace both.

my car was a year out of warranty and i needed a new battery and the stitching went on the seat. BMW covered 95% of the cost.

This thing having an original 100k MSRP is not a reason to over charge for stuff. I would say its based more on demand which there are obviously more SRT's than x5m's. The jeeps seem to be holding their value a lot better than the x5m as well.

Will be interested to see the track hawk model. Lots of great options.

If I did it all over again I would consider shelling out the coin for a new x5m...I was buying this to haul my dogs in and not really care to much about. My living situation has gotten a little better for running my dogs and I haven't put them in the truck yet.

I love mine and new what the M tax was all about after having M5. I would buy it again.

PS-at least a couple really nice X5ms for sale are on this site but I'm sure you know. Good luck with purchase.
