WTB - Carbon Fiber or Piano Black Interior trim...
I am interested in sourcing CF or black BMW interior trim pieces. My X5 M was equipped with Eucalyptus and I have "wrapped" it with CF film, but would like to keep it authentic BMW for longevity reasons. Anyone know of a source (other than BMW) where these might be found? Dash Trim, four doors, and console pieces are what I am looking for. Did BMW make an actual CF trim for E-70, or is Piano Black the closest available option? Would also consider trade +$$ if anyone would like to convert to the Eucalyptus, perfect to near perfect condition.
Thanks! |

BMW did not make real CF trim for the E70 - they did offer Carbon Leather which is actually the most common interior trim. I see those and Piano Black the most, so if you could find a wrecked X5M, chances are it would have one of those trims. The newer BMW ///M models (F8x M3/M4, F85/F86 X5M/X6M, etc.) have the real CF - looks so good You see this one? Damn it's more $ than the genuine CF trim set for the F85 X5M, listed just below it on eBay - http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-OEM-E70-...FTAPJP&vxp=mtr |

Yeah the interior trim pieces are ridiculous. I have the aluminum interior and wanted piano black. The prices on these kits put me over the edge though. No way to justify $1500-2000 for a couple pieces of trim.
I have only seen one source with genuine carbon fiber pieces and I can't seem to find it first. I personally think the piano black is the cleanest... Why not just have a reputable shop spray it piano black for you?

Piano Black is the most expensive out of all the trim options, expect to pay anywhere from 1.5-2k+ if you cant find something out of a wreck yard. Doubt you will find someone that wants to swap it out.
I di-noc'd (fake cf vinyl) mine because the wood trim was really cracked up and looked terrible. Looks pretty good (like the cf leather) but feels cheap. Its just going to hold me over until I figure out what to do as I would really like to vacuum cf wrap those pieces so I can have legit cf trim and not buy the "carbon fiber leather" one BMW offers. Hand laying would probably work out pretty well too since all the trim pieces are not very curvy. I have 30sqft or so of 2x2 twill around but forget what weight but its on the lighter side - may give it a go soon. DD - Please post the link if you find it. |

Kaytees - Would you happen to have any pics of yours with the plasti-dip gloss you mentioned? That might be an option, as the vinyl wrap I have looks good, it just "feels" aftermarket.

You need to use a heat gun / hair dryer to get it around the curved surfaces. Sorry to say but that looks terrible, poor M
Also, can get much better wrap by removing the door panels and center console pieces to get around the edges before you cut. Glove box piece will not come out unless you drill out the plastic welds, so better to wrap that in place. Keep in mind the door pieces have the silver trim plastic welded to the wood piece so that edge will have to be cut carefully also. While I had the door panels out I took the opportunity to install some second skin (dynamat/sound deadening) and cut out some denim sound insulation for the cavities between door frame and door panel. Helped with road noise and improved stock stereo sound quality. Just another idea for when you have the panels off. Kaytees - Please post up some pics of the cleared wrap, thanks! I will swap out my piano black in a HEARTBEAT to anyone that has carbon leather... Personally, I don't like the piano black at all.
