Video security
With all the onboard cameras is there any system out there that taps into these cameras and record when parked/driving? I just use a gopro and saved me twice on 'at fault' claims cause the other driver had an entirely different story to tell until I showed the cops the video. Boy the other driver changed his tune. Just want catch punks who are jealous and have a desire to destroy others vehicles.

how often do you get into an accident?
Maybe you would be better off spending some time in a defensive driving course.

that is a great topic, i wonder if any vendors here offer something like that, kinda like a surveillance system for the car, full inside few, so the camera would be mounted in the right rear corner looking at the interior yet not being so visible, the other one for the mirror that looks forward, some sort of DVR to record it and erase if nothing happened.
I am prepared to pay alot of money for a system like that, not sure how to do it myself. |

Some of the car DVRs offer 'parking' modes that record motions. #1 problem is power supply - the built-in batteries aren't good for long, and you have to somehow bypass the X5 shut-down logic yet preserve the battery from draining completely.

i don't necessarily need it to record while parked, although it would be nice!!
some of the custom built shops add another battery to a car just to supply power to accessories. |

I would buy a system that you can put in and not see it in front of me at all times when i drive, maybe like hidden spycam that sees the speedometer, everything that's going on in front of you, and may be behind you. Kind of a camera that works in the background so that i don't have to turn it on or turn it off everytime, or not have to worry about someone breaking into your car to steal the camera .
i know it can be done, but i don't know ppl that do it. Any suggestions? |

Aww!!who would need any kind of recording while driving or parking? I don't think anyone need it in any case. Yeah but it's necessary to secure your video recording. Perhaps it's imp if any accident occurs or happenings. Does anyone know how to put video on security mode! Please suggest.

I bought one of these "DOD GSE550 Car DVR Black Box Camera with GPS/Speed Logger & Voice record" and mounted it infront of the rearview mirror, and got power for it off the lighting/sunroof consol. It comes on when either the accessories is on or when the engine is running.
It records in HD, 120deg angle, takes a 64gig MicroSD, holds about 16 hours before it overwrites, has HDMI and a small LCD screen. There no reason while you could not wire it to perminent 12v source. You can hardly see it beside the large bezel of the BMW rearview mirror.

Mastek, it is here:
http://dod-tec.us/dod-gse550-car-dvr...-with-gps.html Although it looked like he took it lightly, I don't think OP cared for X5Fx's sarcastic response. You do not necessarily have to get into any accident. Do you wear seat belt? Do you wear seatbelt because you think you will have an accident that day? Believe it or not, these cameras saved a lot necks. Here is a very good example. Just think about the hassle you would have to go through if someone actually backed into you... www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJYFyYGWZcE Anyway, I am with those who don't want the hassle of having to turn it on/off or wire it (other than when charging) etc.. I thought about setting my phone, but the lens is not wide enough. I will check a few websites maybe stuff like iPhone or Android may have a very simple trigger. When the phone connects via bluetooth to BMW, start recording. So you just dock it facing the front and it starts recording, and stops recording when you leave your vehicle. It looks like DOD also does it, but how does it do it? I am not sure Quote:

I wanted to bring this thread back up because my wife's car received a very large door ding the other day and still wanted to know if anyone knows of a system or has an electrical background on how to integrate a DVR into the existing X5's camera system?
