I request you to update the list of major issues faced as this would help us consolidate the common issues with X5m/x6m thanks.

Meanwhile I was doing the research about high mileage X5m and found this 2012 with 142 k miles .. it’s listed for sale at 149xx in Bay Area

So I did a general search on auto trader and these were some high mileage X5m. Obviously it’s not possible to get the list of issues .

I just picked up a '10 35d to use as an occasional tow vehicle, and probably as a daily. It's got 205k on it, and I've driven the last 900 miles in the last few days. It's got an engine light on for a sensor in the emissions system that I've read lightly on that I can short the pins with resistors and get the code off, which is probably the route I will go. Needs a wheel bearing soon, and has a few issues like broken tinting in it's passenger mirror, and a broken tailgate latch. Overall, in great shape minus those few things. It seems pretty basically optioned, with no HUD or self leveling suspension. Has the Pano roof, 4 heated seats, the heated wheel, and the adaptive headlights. Getting into and driving the car, you'd thing the odo had a 0 added to it accidentally. Still super smooth and quiet!

Journey ... thanks
yes I have updated multimedia to Avin unit, you can read about it in Avin thread.

as far as my journey to 100k miles (well my journey started in December of 2015 with 35k miles) I already answered this question in this thread but overall I've been lucky so far (knocking on wood) I had to fix some minor issues left by first owner and since then pretty much maintenance (oil, filters, brakes etc.) there were few recalls over past few years (injectors, driveshaft, air bag etc.)
Really nothing major to report.

I had warranty from BMW which I bought in May of 2016 when factory ran out, I just ran out of that warranty when I crossed 100k, didn't have to use the one I bought and not planning to buy another one as I don't think its gonna be easy task! so as I said I'm keeping my fingers crossed but looking at my history with the car I hope its gonna still last me few more years and many more smiles!

good luck with your research!

I'm in the process of buying that X5M. I've driven it a few times now and it's a clean 1 owner car that has been well maintained. I definitely wasn't looking for a high miles X5M, but there just aren't many for sale in the Bay Area.

Don't sweat it, just your coil or plug. Cost ya about 60 dollars in parts if you did it yourself...word of advice: change all your plugs and coils now and save yourself the headache if them continue to fail. Get generic bosch plugs for 1/4 of the dealer price. Get eldor or Delphi coils (avoid Bosch coils made in Slovenia).

Don't worry bout it too much, should be a quick fix if its only a misfire in one cylinder. Can't tell you how often my wife's sienna has that problem.

Has anyone had a fuel leak issue with a 2006 3.0L X5? if I fill the tank to much the shut off on the nozzle never clicks off and I get fuel leaking out from under the vehicle. Now i just short fill the tank it smells of gas. I also occasionally get the check gas cap warning. I am sure it has something to do with the evaporative emissions system system but don't know where to begin. 2006 with 100K.

How have I never seen this thread before?! I've got a 2010 35d with 216k on it. at 212k I deleted the emissions stuff, with a stage 2 tune. Thing's a rocketship now! My best mpg has been 31.4, that's about 70% highway at 70mph. I've also started towing my drift car with it, about 5500 lbs behind it total.

Allegedly, I'm an imbecile, and I clearly found it once before. HA!

I wish I had the HUD, and really wish I had the leveling suspension, as I'm likely going to try to figure out an aftermarket airbag setup to help with load leveling.

Have a 2012 X5 3.5 with 112k. At 104k wp went. Had it covered under a BMW dealer warranty thats good till 2021 or 136k. Wp failure also caused crack in coolant reservoir which i took care of myself. Currently dealing with a oil leak where the bell housing meets the oil pan. Still trying to figure out if it is rms or opg. Wondering if high engine temps when wp failed caused the rms to leak. Aside from that engine is very clean up top and runs well. On the inside i have a slight crack on bottom side driver seat bolster that flares up my ocd.

Almost everyone thinks it is the rear main seal at first - because of the slope of the engine, etc, that is where it drips. 99% of the time it is the oil pan

Remove the rubber inspection plug, look inside the bell housing - probably dry and clean

135k 2011 35d

This past Oct bought a 2011 X5d with 130k from the local Subaru dealer. It was a local car with 1 owner and all the service at the BMW dealership. It drove well and felt solid. One week later the check engine light comes on ( after only putting about 60 miles on it). I take it back and they in turn take it back to the BMW dealer which does testing and diagnosed a bad NOX sensor. They also state the DEF tanks are not transferring properly and the DPF is nearly clogged. They quote (if I remember correctly ) $1400 for the sensor and transfer pump. Asked Subaru dealer if they would contribute as this seemed to be a pre-existing condition and their answer was sorry but no. I took the X5 to a German diesel expert and he is doing extensive bench top testing of the EGR, Egr cooler, DPF, SCR system with tanks and swirl flaps. The car is running very well during the test period although a little whiny. Since the extended emissions test, I did the transmission filter change with mecatronic seals. Air filter, oil change, and fuel filter. 135k today

Never buy Diesel X5 as the headaches exceed any mileage or torque benefits. Gas turbo has more lower end torque. Emissions equipment on the diesel is the deal killer. The money you spend on repairing diesel emissions equipment will negate any mileage benefits and plus diesel is more expensive then gas.

Assuming you mean the electric water pump.. So, When the electric pump fails, what happens besides the engine getting hot? Does the ECM shut off the engine? Is there any safe guards preventing the engine from overheating?

Electric Water Pump/Thermostat
Torn CV Boot
Plastic Firewalls 3 Pieces (Brittle)
Coils and Plugs at 100K
Transmission Fluid/Filter - 100K
Heater Valve - 135K
Oil Pan Gasket (Normal for these vehicles around 90K)
Airbag Recall
Replaced Brake Rotors and Pads.

I use it for a daily driver 70 miles/day. A great vehicle that I intend to keep until it stops. I believe she will go for 300K as long as I treat her well.

Well figured I'd post but my 2012 x5 premium made it to 156k miles before the engine blew on account of the dealer fixing my OFHG and telling me it was because of my high mileage. And other posts I've read said that the higher the mileage on the N55 the oil pump has trouble circulating the oil after the OFHG change and it creates an air bubble that the engine can't rid itself of and blows.

Unfortunately the dealer is denying a replacement so I need to source another engine! I may just have mine rebuilt.

I'll post back when I know more.

We are all entitled to our opinions, cost for diesel in PA is comparable to premium unleaded. We will see who makes it to the 200k club. Saw one poster in this thread at 216k. Happened to be driving a 35d...

That's me! Still running strong, just towed 5500 lbs again for over 120 miles, two days ago. The delete cost me $2000 including labor, and essentially bulletproofs the motor. The gas costs about 20 cents more than premium here, but what does a V8 get for mileage on the highway at 75? 17? 18? I get 29 at 75. That adds up quick, when I'm driving 30-40k a year. Plus, the maintenance on the v8 will total to more in one or two years than just deleting a diesel. The diesel LOVES highway cruising, and makes effortless power in nearly every situation. Unless you're going to get a 35i with the 8 speed trans, no other X5 will come close to the mileage in the diesel. Diesels are built motors from the factory, they'll last twice as long as a turbo V8, and cost half as much to run in the long term.

It's noteworthy that the only reason I could afford the diesel was that I found one that needed a few things, and had an impending needed delete coming, and bought it for $4300 at 204k. Total, I'm into it around 7k including a thermostat and wheel bearing that I was too lazy to do myself. But I've got a monster of a tuned X5, and it makes a competent tow rig for my needs too.
