My brother let me drive his brand new E36 M3 when I was 18. He had a full Dinan setup and 18" Momos.. the car handled incredibly. I was young and dumb, but he briefly let me triple the posted speed limit on a road trip..

My 2002 e46 325Ci 5MT, loved that thing. Build quality of the e46 is unmatched!

The year was 1973. I was 14, and I took my father's 1972 Bavaria 4MT out for a spin when parents were out of town. Later on in 1980 I bought the Bavaria from my dad.

The E90 spurned my addiction to BMW.
All Bimmers at the time felt so solid and engaging to drive. Unfortunately the E89 Z4 and F10 5er killed the brand as every car since has felt more Audi-like. I haven't truly enjoyed any modern BMW. They are still better than most of the competition, but that's not saying much as everybody is just making fast but numb cars nowadays. I'll probably move over to Porsche in a few years. Electric steering took away some of their charm too, but they still tune their cars to deliver maximum fun unlike BMW nowadays. |

I actually didn't drive one until the 2018 i3 REX that I recently bought. I guess I'm a total newbie when it comes to the rest because I was only looking at electric cars. It's a fantastic vehicle, though most of my friends don't consider it a "real" BMW

My first ever BMW I drove was a wonderful 1997 E39 525tds, i remember that I drove it on a close car park during a sunday mornign with my father.....I was only 14 back in '97. By the way, I still own it and is under a total restoration by our bmw dealer.

Early 70's I was in college. Buddy had a '71 2002. He broke his leg and couldn't drive for a while. Wanted someone to take the car out and give it some exercise. I was the only one around who could drive a stick. To be honest I had no idea what it was. Learned to drive on a Beetle and we had American cars as a kid. He kept telling me to push harder.

I test drove a 340i (I think 2016), and ended up buying a F80 ~2 years later
