so this is happening to my X for the second time.
Last was in March of 2017 when I replaced the top connecting pipe myself after using a temp fix until I could get the part: (and no... gorilla tape really doesn't stand up to the heat/pressure/vacuum very well) I haven't taken the cover off yet to look for more cracks, but I'll bet it's the other side "filtered" pipes this time. BUT that new TSB about the extended coverage came out last year, so maybe I can get it for free? I have no desire to let the local stealership work on it, but if they'll give me the part, I'll do it again and/or take it to another shop & get it done along w/ some other work. https://www.eautorepair.net/app/TSBS...5+M&PS=2&MA=15 SI B01 05 17 S63 ENGINE: ENGINE VENT PIPE (CONNECTING PIECE) - LIMITED WARRANTY EXTENSION TO 10 YEARS/120,000 MILES Dated July 1st 2017.

I don't think dealer would just give you the part, they are making $$ off the labor by billing BMWNA for the work, it's easy swap.
And if I remember correctly, SI B01 05 17 - is only for the top connecting piece not the "filtered air duck" pipes. Last edited by cbakking; 09-27-2018 at 04:24 PM.. |

I have a similar problem, mine conecting tube was splited in half, but when i connect both ends, engine start to missfiring shutting down cyl1, cyl4, etc...
When i leave tube splited, it has engine light but all cylinders working, i delete engine faults and chk engine wont come back until next cold start. Car seems to have all power but little rough idling. Also on splited connecting tube only rhd side have vacuum, on lhd side there is no pressure. I changed vented duct on lhd but no change... On carly i am getting throttle angle-manifold vacuum-corellation and charge air cooling-energy operation. All problems started after season in garage without start and low battery warnings. Please help someone |

Ako jos uvjek imas kodova poslije toga, onda nesto drugo nije uredu. Last edited by mirob; 10-05-2018 at 08:12 AM.. |

You're getting misfires because the engine is running lean with the vacuum leak(s). The vent lines are not expensive, but they are a pain to get to on the intake side. There are also check valves inside the small plastic manifolds and I wonder if you're having an issue with one of those...

I went to change my spark plugs and these things all fell apart when I moved things around. There appears to be a valve of some sort between the top vent tube and the left side vents. Can anyone tell me how to put that back together? The spring and pin popped out at me and for the life of me I can't figure out how it was supposed to go back in. I patched it up with some silicone tubing in the meantime while I wait for the catch cans to come in.

So this happened today. Looks like I will have to order this online. I know ecs has it, anyone find it a bit cheaper. Will most likely order all the vacuum lines just in case the others go also.

Price seems to range between $58-61... not too bad. I wish I could fine somewhere to source these so I could delete this plastic pipe and use something better.

Yay ... look what I can do.
Guess I'll get ahold of local dealer to replace under the tsb. Has anyone had success with temp fixes? Would something like A/C Duct tape made of aluminum work? |

Funny you should mention... I used duct tape when I noticed a strong oil burning smell in the vehicle about half way between Houston TX and SF. It still leaks a bit, but the tape has held up well enough during the 1000 miles+ home and then another 1000+ around town. I've called both local BMW dealers and neither has given me a good answer as far as what's covered. I may just buy the part and do it myself as dealing with the stealership is never something I look forward to.

So I repaired the ccv pipe with some aluminum dryer vent tape. Started up .. chug, chug for a second and then right into Cold Start and idling fine. Backed out of garage and dropped into drive and then it just started chugging again.. will run ok with throttle but idle basically stalls out.
Just got this thing last week.. 2 miles off the delivery truck I got an Eng Malfunction warning. I ended up finding open vac lines from exhaust valves. PO changed the exhaust. That was all good til yesterday when this happened. The saga shall continue I suspect as I'm sealing up these vac leaks more are being exposed... |

Well gives you an opportunity to go over the typical problems and issues that you run into on our cars... I'd try some flex seal tape or something that can get into the corrugated piping ridges. I'm looking into a solution for us all on this pipe...
